This was an AWFUL experience. My friend and I had a lovely weekend away, and decided to stop for breakfast on our way home. We waited 40 minutes to receive really bitter coffee. About 15 minutes later, my "poached" eggs, pictured, arrived like rubber scrambled eggs. I hadn't cut them, that's how they arrived. There was no cutlery on the table, so the waitress said she'd get me some, then must've forgotten, because several minutes later I saw her serving other people and had to go grab some off another table. My friend's Bruschetta didn't arrive until I'd nearly finished my meal. So many people were walking out without receiving their meals. A waiter came out to the table next to us and told them their meals weren't coming. They asked why and he said some people had cancelled the order of 2 of the dishes (these people had not cancelled their order), and for the lady that ordered scones, they had none. They waited half an hour to tell her what she ordered wasn't available. They walked out still hungry. We weren't offered any discount, so I asked for one. Was offered $4 off from a $45 bill and asked for $10 instead, which was granted, but honestly, this shouldn't have cost anything considering how terrible they were making everyone's morning.

On the way from Wineglass Bay to Triabunna, I stopped in Swansea for its good location I checked if there were any good option in town for dinner, and I was pleased to find Saltshaker Restaurant What first made me choose it was the views it seemed to offer, and I can now confirm, beautiful ones Also, the menu is very tempting, with oysters, pies, fish, pasta, pizza, curry; and a nice selection of desserts too I personally went for the scallop pie (Tasmanian wild scallops in mild yellow curry, that came with chips and also the chef's salad, which on top of green salad had fruits and feta cheese). And as a dessert the cake of the day, which was an almond one, that came with whipped cream Every food item was super yummy, really loved them Also the view is so nice (pro tip, you may want to bring a jacket depending when you go) If you prefer to be inside though (which has big windows to offer a very nice view too), reservation is highly encouraged as it can get busy Highly recommended!

Average taste, exorbitant prices. Probably the only restaurant open in the area, hence charging a lot more than required. At an average restaurant charging high prices, one expects fabulous flavours & generous portions. Unfortunately, at Saltshaker Restaurant Swansea, after paying $49.90 for a lamb rack dish (was undercooked with unrendered fat, had to send it back, was just ok once back, and the accompanying items on plate were quite underwhelming), $33.90 for chicken tikka masala (1 papad, 1 smallish naan, some rice & a bowl of minute shredded chicken in what seemed like bottled supermarket bought gravy), $32.90 for tandoori chicken (1 piece of slightly undercooked but edible chicken thigh, salad & chips), and $15.90 for bruschetta (2 pieces of sourdough- nice enough in taste), we walked away feeling unsatisfied. One thing they did well was presentation! Food looked good, but was over priced & underwhelming.

Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else if you’re in Swansea. The dining room was stuffy, with no background music for ambience and numerous flies around the place. Our server was unhelpful, bordering on rude: when ordering we asked some simple questions about what gluten-free options they had and modifying a dish for a child (removing the ice cream and maple syrup) both were met with confusion and a lack of knowledge or, most frustratingly, any desire to cater to what are basic requirements. It’s worth noting here that they do not have a kids menu and do not offer any smaller serves. I’m not a coeliac but the server didn’t bother to check or clarify that when she took our order after I had asked about the gluten-free options. She also had to prompted to take our drink order.

We were not informed of a wait time for food or drinks (the place was maybe half full) and waited for close to 20 minutes for some very average coffee and were ready to walk out by the time the food finally arrived 45/50 minutes later. The food itself was greasy and low quality, portions were small and they left the avocado off of my dish for some unknown reason. Absolutely overpriced for what it was.

I left feeling queasy and irate that such a large portion of our morning had been spent there unnecessarily. There was no apology for the wait and because we weren’t informed on arrival we were not afforded the opportunity to make our own decision about it either. That’s failing basic hospitality and unfortunately I think this is the kind of place that doesn’t need to rely on return customers - being by the waterside, right on the main road, in a tourist town - and will continue to get away with not improving on delivering a poor product and service due to the steady supply of first time customers who don’t know any better. The purpose of this review is so you might know better.

There are plenty of considerably better options in the town and I would encourage you to bring your business in their direction and not waste your time and money at the Saltshaker. The dirty windows left even the famed view...

My recent visit to Salt Shaker Restaurant was nothing short of magical. Nestled right next to the sea, the location itself is a breathtaking experience. The serene views of the ocean added an enchanting touch to our dining evening.

Now, let's talk about the food. The pizza at Salt Shaker is simply divine. The crust was perfectly crispy, and the toppings were a burst of flavor in every bite. Whether you prefer classic Margherita or more adventurous toppings, their pizza menu offers a delightful range of options that will leave your taste buds dancing.

Every dish that graced our table was a masterpiece, but the combination of gourmet pizza and the sound of waves crashing nearby made it a truly unique experience. The flavors were exquisite, and you could taste the freshness of the ingredients, including those sourced from the sea.

The presentation of each course was impeccable, almost too beautiful to eat. The chef's attention to detail was evident in every plate, showcasing their dedication to creating an exceptional dining experience.

The service was another highlight of the evening. The staff was not only attentive but also incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. They were more than willing to provide recommendations and answer any questions we had. Their genuine friendliness added a personal touch to the entire experience.

What made the evening even more special was the extensive wine list. The sommelier was more than happy to suggest wine pairings that complemented our meal perfectly, enhancing the flavors and making the dining experience even more memorable.

In conclusion, Salt Shaker Restaurant is a coastal treasure that should not be missed. It's a place where food, especially the exquisite pizza, is elevated to an art form, and the staff goes above and beyond to ensure you have an unforgettable time. With the sea as your backdrop, this restaurant offers a dining experience that is both magical and delicious. Whether it's a special occasion or a casual night out, I wholeheartedly recommend Salt Shaker for an exceptional seaside dining...

March 2025 and after a fantastic weekend, a real downer to finish the trip. If youre a tourist and eaten here then as a local I would like to send my sincerely apologises. Yes the meals and service were so bad here it's one of the only restaurants in my 60 years that I have ever considered walking out of and not paying.

6 of us arrived for breakfast and wanted nothing special, eggs and bacon, a vegie meal. Coffees were delivered first and they were cold, weak and tasteless, not a good start. Slowly our meals started coming out one by one. Appears that chef does one bacon rasher, one portion of eggs, plates up and gets that one delivered and then starts on the next one. Yes we weren't all served together but in the ordered that we placed our orders in. Over an hour for all our breakfast to be delivered.

Waitresses didn't seem to have any idea of the table numbers and tried to deliver our food to a different table.

So hopefully the quality of the food makes up for it..... Nope sorry. It appears that the chef can't even cook a piece of toast (basically a soggy piece of bread) or a hash brown (undercooked) The bacon was underdone and the scrambled egg tasteless.

So it must be cheap? Again you lose out here. $5 extra for one (undercooked) rasher of bacon. $5 for 1 cm cube of haloomi. Definitely the worst spend $70+ for a two person breakfast ever.

We did discuss with the staff on leaving but they didn't seem to want to know about it and even argued with us about the quality.

During this time multiple people either sent their food back (underdone eggs) or left without waiting for they meal (or sent their meal back and left).

Unless something happens (change of staff and management) please avoid this place. As I say it's an embarrassment to all Tasmanians and the fine food found on...
