Ardo Rooftop — Restaurant in Townsville City

After a five star experience at Terasu a couple of weeks ago we decided to try out the Rooftop Bar. It is a mistake we won't make again. After waiting a few minutes at the "wait here to be seated" sign, and being ignored by several staff, we decided to take a seat at the bar. We sat there for at least 5 minutes before we were even acknowledged by "bar guy". I asked if they were serving food and was told we have to sit at a table to order and he referred us back to "entrance guy". We saw "entrance guy", who had finally materialised, he showed us to a table I didn't want to sit at and so we immediately moved to another one😁 "Entrance guy" lacked personality and an ability to smile which seemed to be a theme at the Rooftop. Through the drone of what was apparently music we made made our food and beverage choices. I went back to the bar to order and got "bar guy", he was even less charming than when we first met him. We received our champagne from a friendly girl who smiled, she also brought a carafe of water because she noticed we were drinking out of our water bottles; she's the reason service gets one star. The calamari came out quickly, but it was overseasoned so my partner finished it. The salmon pizzette, chicken koftas and oysters Kilpatrick (without oyster cutlery) came out soon after. The smoked salmon plus other toppings were really good but the base was not; I didn't like the koftas at all, my partner, aka Hoover finished that dish too😁 I really loved the oysters and could have happily spent the afternoon gorging myself myself on them followed by many glasses of sparkles but couldn't stay after the terrible service and mostly mediocre food. We went next door to the Quarterdeck where we were greeted with friendly smiles and the same sparkles!!! Thank you Quarterdeck for saving our afternoon 😁

Food is very poor and extremely overpriced. The lamb ribs were more grease than meat, something which has come up in a review before many months ago, so management obviously do not care as this has not changed. The bread in the steak sandwich was wet and had obviously been sat out as it had soaked all the moisture up. The zucchini fries were covered in batter and were extremely greasy, and all the batter had to be taken off, but eventually the food was wasted. The wait staff actually apologised to us before we even said anything, so they obviously knew the food was of a very poor quality. However, despite us explaining how poor the food was, no offer of refund was made. To say this is a 5 star hotel, chefs and management need to improve everything about this place as it is definitely not worth the large amount of money that we were required to pay for poor quality food. There is also a surcharge to order from the QR code on the tables, but there is no information about the additional payment, plus it did not work, so we were required to order from the bar anyway. Information about the surcharge should be on display so customers know about it as they are paying above the advertised price for food and drinks. Restrooms - needed to wash all the grease from the food off our hands, but the men's restroom was being cleaned by a female cleaner but there was no signage anywhere to say as much - this should not be allowed and needs addressing. I recently visited this bar with my mate and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish.
