Overpriced and Underwhelming Service

Our recent visit was a disappointment, marked by okay food and poor service that fell far short of expectations. Prices are high, and can be accepted if food and service is a high standard….in this instance it wasn’t.

The food was okay, but lacking the sophistication and flavour one expects from a high-end restaurant. We splurged on the caviar to celebrate our special night, only for it to be unceremoniously dumped on the table with the other starters and without any explanation of the condiments or guidance on how to enjoy and no utensils for the condiments leaving us to use our finger's.

The service was the most glaring flaw and disappointing aspect of the evening. When making the online booking it was recommended we upload a photo (we didn’t) so staff could recognise us on arrival. This excited us and set a high expectation for the kind of personalised service we could expect. Sadly the service was abysmal and obvious the staff require further training. Meals were delivered with no mention of what the dishes were, cutlery was missing and we had to ask for some, starter plates were not cleared before mains were bought out, and we had to continually asking to refill our water throughout the night. For a high end restaurant they have a lot of improvements and training still to be done.

For a restaurant of this caliber, the ambiance was disappointing. There were no tablecloths on the tables, tables for couples were placed so close you could hear the intimate conversations of the couple beside you, staff uniforms are more attuned to a Sunday afternoon session at a backpackers beach resort, cutlery was not setup or provided based on what we ordered, and the toilets located outside of restaurant all detracted from the overall dining experience. Additionally, the first drinks we ordered were delivered five minutes apart, delaying the toast for our special night.

Overall, Marmor failed to meet the high expectations it sets for itself. The okay food, poor service, and inadequate ambiance do not justify the steep prices. There are better dining options available that offer superior value, service...

Very nice Restaurant sitting on top floor of Ardos, trying to be the Upper echelon of Restaurants in Townsville. The meals were very nicely presented, but essentially what you order is all you get! Meaning your steak arrives on the plate as a steak! Your side orders are not priced cheaply served with a light sprinkle of something and a sauce or yoghurt. Your steak sauces are seperately priced!! I ordered the Duck breast, it did have a little extra on the side, and was very good, the Steak Tartare was a good serving, although I ran out of Melba toast slices, three quarters of the way through, another two would have been nice, and the radish slices on top needed to be a bit thicker to get the peppery bite, mine just had none. The cocktails were very good, along with the serving of wine. The bar in the restaurant is definitely not a pre dinner bar, no lounge area to talk of, just a service bar for the Restaurant, with shelves of glasses surrounding it. Pre dinner drinks would need to be in the outside bar at other end of top floor, where your $200/300 spent on your hairstyling in the afternoon in readiness for a flash night out, is blown away in the second you step out of the lift at the top floor of the dining/bar area. With no hope of resurrecting it, in bathrooms accesed from same outdoor area! Fine Dining....just a nice expensive night out,...

First time at Marmor, expectations where high.Walking in through the two doors and being greeted by a Wine and Meat display was a nice touch which only raised our expectations once again. Having been greeted and seated our dinner experience began. Our waiter for the night was excellent, very pleasant, nicely attentive and informative regarding to our meals. We ordered the burnt butter leek which was very nice, followed by a cold seafood platter for 2 which was slightly under whelming , ready peeled king prawns nice, rock oysters nice, a tuna type cervicha excellent, marinated mussels nice but the bugs where disappointingly small.Overall fresh and served cold but small for a platter. We also had side dishes of a tomato salad (basic tomato with basic dressing) French bean salad which was basic green beans but the dressing impressed both of us. The wine and cocktails where what one would expect Excellent! , the dessert was excellent!. Atmosphere was relaxing , quiet and enjoyable. The decor was nice but tables could do with white table cloths to dress up the place. Love Open air type kitchens, were you can see all the kitchen staff and Chefs at work .Must say very relaxed ,which was pleasing to see and the Head Chef in full control and also very calm. So overall very pleasing Dinner experience ,definately worth a visit when...

We enjoyed a lovely dinner at steak and seafood restaurant, Marmor, at the new Ardo Hotel in Townsville. Standout starter dishes were the kingfish with finger lime, burnt leek with brown butter and hazelnuts, and spinner crab with squid ink crisps. Don't skip the bread - sourdough with lemon myrtle and freshly churned butter was delicious! Marmor has a woodfired grill and pride themselves on sourcing top Australian beef, so we ordered the chateaubriand and eye fillet steak - both were cooked perfectly. We shared all the dishes and also tried the fantastic sea coral trout with braised witlof and sauce vierge. To finish off a great meal, we ordered the mille fuelleile with white chocolate cream, passionfruit creme & fresh berries, tiramisu, and raspberry sorbet - all delicious! Before dinner, we had drinks in the Ardo rooftop bar. The bar has stunning views across Townsville, Castle Hill, and Magnetic Island, and a great place to watch the sunset.
