The Original Fish Shop — Restaurant in Victor Harbor

The original and the worst? If you're after a quick bite, this is the last place I'd be traveling to in the state.

Picture this: 1:30pm on a Friday, certainly not the busiest time of the year. You enter a run-down little store with minimum lighting and a few customers waiting for their order. You wait at the counter for five minutes before being acknowledged whatsoever, even after attempting to draw attention from the two attendees. At least the prices aren't horrendous.

As expected, those customers already waiting are served before you, though after about fifteen minutes, orders are being claimed for those who entered well after you.

Thirty minutes pass. No notice has been taken from either employee, though they're both gleefully talking amongst one another. You explicitly stroll up to the counter and question the period of time it takes to deep fry a couple of fish and a small chips: "Half an hour mate" - the attendant's response: "Half an hour? Huh." Now that; is generous service.

Luckily the manager must have realised how incompetent his chefs are, and has payments implemented so that you don't pay until you're served the next day. Personally, I'd recommend either bringing a deck chair or just going across the street where there's character and at least a sand...

Two stars because the food did taste okay... but there were so many issues. Apparently you had to order at end of the line - but no one was there to take my order? So ordered at pickup area instead which confused them a lot. Ordered 6 fish and $18 chips (which according to their sign should have been enough for 8) - and got the stingiest amount of chips ever! $18 for what you would get for $8 anywhere else. Definitely not enough for 8 people. Also only got four fish despite paying for 6 but wasn’t going to go back and line up for half an hour again! No chicken salt despite asking for it, and asked for 8 sauce and Tartares (was happy to pay for them!) but only got 4 I will acknowledge that it was busy in victor today being a long weekend, but that should have been anticipated with more staff rostered and a more organised ordering system! (Like the lady actually being there to take the order, not ignoring you...) Was an expensive, slow, frustrating rip off and we will be trying the other chip...

Came down victor for the weekend thought we would try the "best fish and chips" we thought wrong. We never got asked to dine in or take away so we assumed we ordered off the board menu and also would be able to eat in. We ordered two seafood snack packs and a couple of extra things. We then got asked by another lady if we had ordered we said yes and that we wanted to dine in but didn't know there was a dine in menu so she told the other worker. The lady then said if we would like a seafood basket for 2 and I asked what is that and she replied it's similar to what you ordered. Well no it's f*ing not. It has garfish instead of butterfish and salad and scallops that we didn't even want. So instead of saying it's similar to something else explain to all customers that it is not similar. Was very angry and disappointed and the food ended up being average. Day was ruined. Not returning. That meal was more expensive then what we originally ordered. You should change your name from "best" to.......
