I'll try and start with the positives - the place was very conveniently located, was well decorated and the staff were attentive and very nice. We were seated at a nice large 4 seat table even though there was only my wife and myself which was appreciated. We were served with cold water and a nice cold beer immediately as it was a very hot day outside and that gets a big tick in my book. The place was half full and people seemed to be happy. Now - transparency - my wife is Chinese and maybe we expected to much as we've eaten in some of the best restaurants in Chinatown and around Box Hill and she is a brilliant Chinese cook herself. Not that we were expecting Dragon Boat type food - but we'd seen the Chinese kitchen staff and so we were at least hopeful of genuine Chinese. Now it's never a good sign when you sit down and you are given a knife and fork....instead of chopsticks- even my wife was given the knife and fork (try the other way round - give chopsticks and then knife and fork if requested :) ) . The food was presentable - but it's more western Chinese....which is ok. But there's no punch, no Sichuan chilli's, no wow. Which was a shame. The rice was plentiful but like most places - for $1 worth of rice you get charged a bit to much. We ordered Beef and Black bean sauce and chicken and stir fry vegetables with steamed plain rice. Personally -and honestly - we regretted choosing this restaurant for dinner once we'd finished. But if you want non-traditional Chinese - this is a place you'll...
Read moreThe look of the restaurant is much better than the taste of the food. This is a typical Chinese restaurant in the country that is designed to fool Westerners who do not know what real Chinese food taste like. So they can get away with charging a subpar dish for $17/$18.
How do they even get 4 star review overall, I would never know. To me, this is the worst Chinese food I've ever tasted in a proper restaurant.
Being a native Chinese, this is not authentic Chinese food. Something any Chinese can throw together without proper training. I can even cook fried rice better than this. It was dry, tasteless, hard and nearly burned.
The chicken with ginger and shallot sauce was salty and half of the plate was onion. Singapore noodle was average.
I bet most people walk into this restaurant because of its grand facade. It is beautiful on the main street in Beechworth. But in fact, the quality of the food was not even as good as the street food stall at the night market in Sydney.
A waste of time and money...
Read moreHad a dine in meal at this restaurant and all I can say is that I am happy that I will never return. The food was absolutely garbage.
I ordered a lemon chicken, bbq pork in plum sauce and a fried rice. Well the lemon chicken was crunchy but the sauce didn't taste like lemon at all. The bbq pork was cold and the sauce was as thick as clag glue that you used at primary school.
The waitstaff also need not to ask why I don't want prawns in my fried rice. Yes I have allergies to seafood but really it's none of your business why I wanted it removed also you may want to change your pricing as you are way over charging for what you produce. I don't even pay these prices in...
