We are still astonished that our two night stay in Lorne caused us to say on consecutive nights ‘that was possibly one of the worst meals I’ve ever had in my life’. On the second night we had stir fried vegetables and a green curry but that is the subject of another review. We checked the reviews of the three fish and chips shops in Lorne and they varied from very good to very bad for all three. We asked a local and she told us that the Salty Dog used to be good but had gone off which reflected the other reviews. She said that she had recently had food from Lorne fish and Chips and that it had been good. She said that Captain Hooked was variable and sometimes good, sometimes bad. We went with Lorne Fish and Chips and had the seafood basket for two; chips, two pieces of blue grenadier, two battered scallops and two crumbed calamari rings and two crumbed prawns. The chips were ok, hence two stars. The fish batter was soggy and oily and quickly turned into an unappetising grey mush on the plate. Ditto the scallops. The prawns and calamari were ok. The $2.50 tartare sauce was the best part of the meal. All this for $40.00. If you must have fish and chips try Captain Hooked but no guarantee from us! And stay away from the noodle joint....
Read moreWe did a family drive down the great ocean road and thought we would pop into this fish and chip shop and stop for tea with the family.
The atmosphere and cleanliness of store was nice hence us stopping in. Cook and waiting time were short but when we got our meal that consisted of chicken nuggets, fish, steamed dim sims, spring roll, family chips and potato cakes and drinks that Came to a total 60 dollars.
When the meal arrived the chips and nuggets were over cooked. The nuggets were burnt on outside but half frozen on inside.
The fish was also still half frozen on inside, as was the steamed dim sims that were stone cold as well. The only part that was ediable to eat in whole meal was the potato cakes!
We simply won't be stopping into this shop again and was very disappointed in the meal. The shop wasn't packed out ether so no reason for meal to not be cooked properly.
We are Rating it 1 star for this...
Read moreThey're currently selling the business, but not sure if that effects their attitude or not... Customer service was excellent. They apologized for not having card facilities, and said we could walk down the street while they started cooking. About ten shops down was an ATM so I wasn't concerned. Potato cakes, dim sims, nuggets, chips, fish and garlic prawn twisters. PCs were good, Marathon DSs (personal preference but Chien Wah ARE better), tempura nuggets (yum!), garlic prawn twisters (wife was very happy) and chips were cooked nicely and a great portion for the two of us. Fish...? I paid extra for gummy shark. It had bones in it. And tasted fishy. Sharks don't have bones, they have cartilage and it was definitely bone. The fish was either hake or hoki and they're clearly not that interested anymore because if you specifically request flake, they change you for it and then give you lesser...
