McShanag's Bakery — Restaurant in Victoria

This modest bakery is a wonderful discovery. Everything we tried here was exceptional. The vegetable pastie was the best we have ever tasted. Our lamingtons were also the best we have eaten and the neenish tarts were delicious and very fresh. The owner was very friendly and we enjoyed chatting with him. Next time we are in Castlemaine we will return to try some more...

Passing through Castlemaine, I decided to stop here for lunch. Best choice ever. I'm generally not a pie eater, but one look at the chunky pastry I decided on the chunky beef pie. It was simply awesome. Tender chunks of meat, not fat , no grizzle. So glad I sat in the car to eat it. I went back in and brought extra pies to take home....

It's like stepping back in time at McShanags from the lovely dated old shop to their "to die for" pies, pasties and sausage rolls. Pies here are larger than most and made with fantastic shortcrust pastry, the sausage rolls are nice and the cornish pasties are probably the best I have had in years. These folks know how to make...
