Thai Basil — Restaurant in Victoria

We visited from Adelaide a couple of weekends ago, and we were sooo hungry from a long day of travelling. We ordered a vegan pad Thai, fried rice and ice cream and sat down. 40 minutes later we hadn’t received any food but we didn’t complain as the restaurant was at 70% capacity. Then we started noticing that groups of people who came in after us were receiving food before us, so we intentionally made eye contact with one staff member who came over and told us that the pad Thai couldn’t be made vegan. I’m fine with waiting a reasonable time and I’m fine with things not being vegan...but waiting 50 minutes before being told that the dish isn’t vegan isn’t fair. The older staff member also gave table water to other tables, but didn’t offer us any and seemed to be intentionally avoiding us. We had to get her attention to ask for some and no apology was given.

The next night, we went back as the food was delicious and we were prepared to give them another chance. The older lady gave us table water this time but her facial expression made us feel that she was doing it in spite of the previous night’s requests. I asked if the Tom kha was available and the older lady said “no” in a very blunt manner and walked off. The food was quick (around 15 minutes) but the older lady made us feel uncomfortable and like we’d done something to bother her. When ordering the second night, the older woman was extremely blunt and unfriendly and repetitively kept cutting me off with telling me the total price before I’d finished ordering.

I have absolutely no idea what we did wrong to her as we were polite on both nights.

The food was delicious and the serving sizes were good. But we probably won’t visit again as we were made to feel...

We had a great dinner at Thai Basil Restaurant! We ordered the Pepper Stir Fry Chicken and the Thai Fried Rice with Chicken, and both dishes were absolutely delicious. The pepper stir fry had just the right amount of spice and was packed with fresh veggies and tender chicken — full of bold, savory flavor. The Thai fried rice was fragrant, well-cooked, and had a great balance of seasoning with generous pieces of chicken.

The service was friendly and quick, and the overall atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Would definitely come back again...

I'm sorry but this restaurant chef needs to eat out at more Thai restaurants. This is the second time I have ventured to sample the cuisine. Bitterly disappointed both times. I only went back as the reviews were good. Big mistake. The Thai red beef curry was a concoction of thin boot leather masquerading as beef, surrounded by a thin soup, with some vegetables. The rice was under cooked. To top it off, I was given the wrong order and had to wait while they corrected the error. I cannot understand the hype and high reviews. Won't be...
