An absolutely horrendous experience. I would never stay here again. Arrived to find only one room booked when we had categorically booked two. Waited seemingly forever to be assisted by the manager Grant to sort it out. It was clearly evident the place is hopelessly disorganised. We had a second room sorted and paid for, then only to discover there is no air conditioning in either room, on a day when it was 37 degrees!! I mean are there any hotels in Australia without AC?? Still we decided to stay because the challenge of finding somewhere else seemed too great. We should have tried. Stayed for a meal and that was equally as poor. Menu confusing (two printed menus?) and range very basic, way over priced and arrived 35 minutes after ordering. Also happened to notice waiting staff confused at two tables with the same number, to which the Manager Grant commented, 'Yeah I should sort that out some time!. Yes you should Grant, in order to stop those same waiting staff rolling their eyes at you in front of customers. I encourage you also to visit the Whalers in Warnambool for AMAZING meals at far better prices! Overall the hotel and rooms were filthy, service hopeless, meals poor, and no AC on a 37 degree day was just too much. In such a stunning old lady as this building is, it's the greatest shame that she's been managed and kept so...

Read moreObviously a lot of newbies being trained up which is probably not ideal coming into the festive season. Prices are exorbitant - we purchased two soda waters served in pots - filled to the brim with ice but not much water and was charged $22 for both - $11 for soda water when most venues charge $4 max? Ridiculous. Then when we asked for plain water to accompany our other beverages ($12 for a pot of Carlton), we were expecting to receive bottled water as the price for the plain water was $7 each but received just your run of the mill tap water. Entertainment was a DJ who defo thinks he's the Wimmera's answer to Fisher and absolutely not worth the $10 cover charge. What a complete dive of a pub. So disappointing to see the standard slip over the years. Two stars because your security crew were actually nice. Your bar staff should spend more time off their phones at the till and more time serving customers. Venue was dirty and poorly maintained. So sad, the Royal really was a great place to go on a Saturday night. Now it's a dirty, overpriced and poorly staffed place to listen to some guy play sounds off his...
