An absolutely horrendous experience. I would never stay here again. Arrived to find only one room booked when we had categorically booked two. Waited seemingly forever to be assisted by the manager Grant to sort it out. It was clearly evident the place is hopelessly disorganised. We had a second room sorted and paid for, then only to discover there is no air conditioning in either room, on a day when it was 37 degrees!! I mean are there any hotels in Australia without AC?? Still we decided to stay because the challenge of finding somewhere else seemed too great. We should have tried. Stayed for a meal and that was equally as poor. Menu confusing (two printed menus?) and range very basic, way over priced and arrived 35 minutes after ordering. Also happened to notice waiting staff confused at two tables with the same number, to which the Manager Grant commented, 'Yeah I should sort that out some time!. Yes you should Grant, in order to stop those same waiting staff rolling their eyes at you in front of customers. I encourage you also to visit the Whalers in Warnambool for AMAZING meals at far better prices! Overall the hotel and rooms were filthy, service hopeless, meals poor, and no AC on a 37 degree day was just too much. In such a stunning old lady as this building is, it's the greatest shame that she's been managed and kept so...

I do a lot of road travel every year and try to stay in country pubs where ever possible ,as they are the best value for money and real people .the Royal Hotel , room price incedibly cheap , basic single bed , sink , wardrobe , dresser mirror, heater and cooler , beds are long and comfortable with warm bedding , no air cond , it is what it is , clean while still in tune of the era of the pub , ..Meals were a mix of in house menu , snitzel menu like I have never seen anywhere, and a special board of the day meals , mine was a snitzel with veggies , , good sized helping , tasty and we'll presented ,drinks were cold as was the day , little ice needed , ..down stairs inside dinning or out side in the well presented beer garden with an impressive wall mural , a good choice of music in the earlier hours of the evening allowing for conversation over the evening meal , once again very clean in both inside and out side areas , all staff presented , clean tidy well dressed and friendly , had a short chat with the owner on topics of COVID , the effects on small business and the recovery needed , parking during the day on street is meter ,after 5 free , I did not note if free on week ends , sorry .in general it's a 9/10 venue that I would not hesitate to revisit ,...

Obviously a lot of newbies being trained up which is probably not ideal coming into the festive season. Prices are exorbitant - we purchased two soda waters served in pots - filled to the brim with ice but not much water and was charged $22 for both - $11 for soda water when most venues charge $4 max? Ridiculous. Then when we asked for plain water to accompany our other beverages ($12 for a pot of Carlton), we were expecting to receive bottled water as the price for the plain water was $7 each but received just your run of the mill tap water. Entertainment was a DJ who defo thinks he's the Wimmera's answer to Fisher and absolutely not worth the $10 cover charge. What a complete dive of a pub. So disappointing to see the standard slip over the years. Two stars because your security crew were actually nice. Your bar staff should spend more time off their phones at the till and more time serving customers. Venue was dirty and poorly maintained. So sad, the Royal really was a great place to go on a Saturday night. Now it's a dirty, overpriced and poorly staffed place to listen to some guy play sounds off his...

Bar staff were friendly. There was a used condom and food wrappers in the room so I'm not sure what the housekeeping are employed to do. Also no ventilation in the bathroom, so enjoy the sauna. Free parking is advertised, but when checking in this actually equated to street parking which was free "because it was a weekend". There are parking meters during business hours, and good luck leaving your valuables in your car. Due to Covid, they could only play music outdoors. The music started blasting at 10pm with bass literally shaking the walls. Management were entirely unhelpful, saying that the music would be playing until 2am. If you want a good night's sleep on the weekend, go somewhere else.

The rooms in this hotel is a step back into the past. Something every one should experience and appreciate if they haven't had this experience before. No TV, shared bathroom, no air conditioning, no lift up the stairs, no bedside light but what an excellent experience. The booking system worked perfectly using landline diversion to mobile without hassle of payment on booking a room compared to Whatif!!! Great to see that there is still places for people that need somewhere safe to stay that doesn't cost a fortune. Thanks Grant

It was a place to stay. Last minute booking, so I had no choice. WAY to expensive for a tiny little room with safety issues. I would not recommend. Attached are photos. 1) wardrobe with broken handle 2) ladder to top bunk, cannot be attached - safety hazard, especially for children. 3) power point right under your head while sleeping - if it shorts or catches fire... Just don't be there.
