Booked a table for dinner a few weeks ago for me & my husband at 6.30pm as we had somewhere to be at 8pm. Allowed plenty of time to eat prior to commitment (Wicked at ulumbarra) . We sat down in a fairly quiet restaurant with 3 female waitresses working so service should have been prompt. Didn’t get served to take order for a good 15min. We ordered a main meal each and an entree’ to share. My husband got a corona and I got a soft drink as I am pregnant. He finished his beer and looked around for service for another which took a further 10min and the waiter just put a thumbs up she walked past us and basically threw the opened corona on the table with no lemon in it nor did she take the finished bottle. Time went by and we saw other people get their meals but not even the entree for us. By this time we had been there for 1hour. I went up to one of the waitresses and explained we had to be somewhere in half an hour and haven’t even seen an entree. She left for the kitchen to “find out where our meal was” but she never returned to let us know what was happening. It was then 7.45 and my husband went up to the staff to cancel everything we had to leave for a theatre play by 8pm. At this time we were told our order was only placed at 7.30 and nothing was ready yet. The first waitresses must have quickly put our order through at 7.30 when we asked what was happening but she never told us of this mistake. We were about to leave hungry and she ran out with my salad that looked like a few pieces of lettuce leaves. We had to leave so I declined the salad. We left after sitting there for one and a half hours starving. Straight to the theatre play which went until 11.30 at night. I am heavily pregnant and couldn’t eat until midnight. What a disaster! 3 staff members, no...
Read moreordered the frachos, which i assumed was a safe vegetarian option since it had 'VG' next to it, but it came out loaded with chilli con carne which was an add-on. i flagged down a waiter and explained i didnt ask for the chilli con carne, and he told me that that's how the meal was prepared. i said that on the menu it's an add-on, and he said it wasn't and told me that even if i asked for no chilli con carne, they couldn't accommodate that because it was made all together or something (???????). i insisted that it was labelled a vegetarian meal and the meat was an add-on multiple times before he said he would go look at the menu. he was gone five minutes before he returned, apologised, and had a new meal fixed up for me quick. i worked in hospo for five years and hate the 'customer is always right' saying, but jesus christ nothing good comes out of trying to argue with a customer... and i've been vegetarian for nine years, i know how to pick out a vegetarian meal.... lol.
it was a decent meal once i got to eat it, and a good size for an entree. my friends said their meals werent anything spectacular, though.
when we went to pay, the chilli con carne had been added as an add-on, which means whoever put in the order added that in despite me not asking for it. not too bothered about that, mistakes happen, and the man at the till was good about removing it from the bill.
we've visited in the past (before the new owners) and had good meals there. the atmosphere of the pub, especially outside at night, is really lovely. i'm hoping this experience is a one off as i love supporting local businesses, but i'd be lying if i said i wasn't put off...
