Good coffee and tasty ingredients. Kitchen and service staff still working towards finding their groove. Worth a try, because there's no shortage of potential, but your mileage may vary.
With the restaurant at 80% capacity breakfast service was chaotic and slow; tables and orders mixed up, coffee and meals delayed just enough for inconvenience and second thoughts. There were a lot of very cool looking staff, but you couldn't help but conclude that their prior experience in service varied wildly based on some of the rookie mistakes we experienced and how that contrasted with the relaxed efficiency of some other staff.
Food has the right ideas, but servings are small and they haven't ironed out the consistency of execution just yet. A ham and cheese toasty had so little cheese that we couldn't find it. The house breakfast sandwich turned out to be $22 for a thick but small sandwich that I think was (unintentionally?) modelled on a Reuben that dripped terribly and was less than the sum of its parts. It's a menu to watch, because they're probably only a few tweaks from really nailing the modern meets traditional European deli food niche with great local ingredients.
The modern, clean and cool but earthy decor and atmosphere are up there with anything you'll find in Sydney, Melbourne etc.
If you're reading this review and it's more than six months old, then definitely check the place out to see if it's ironed out the kinks. If the review is newer than that, then I think you'll be taking a punt, but you may be...
Read moreChanced on this place walking past when visiting Wagga. The Beautiful fitout drew us in, everything was immaculate, and time and effort has been put into creating a woderful feel, even the clipboards for the menus were solid brass. The alley and courtyard are lush and filled with plants and quirky little nooks to sit and eat. The food was brilliant, we ordered 5 different dishes and shared them. The Jamon was melt in your mouth goodness, the casarecce was delicious and the pear and brie, calamari and mushroom bruchetta's were wonderfully balanced in flavor and served on beautiful bread. As our meals had been so delicious, we could not resist the desserts, and tried the cannoli and tiramisu, both of which were lovely. The staff were also fantastic, warm and friendly, attentive and helpful. We were very impressed, and will definitely visit again next time we are in wagga! Such a...
Read moreAcross all the Wagga Wagga cafes I dined in during my recent trip, Meccanico Espresso + Wine made the best coffee. Their Art of Espresso beans scrubbed up nicely in both a cappuccino ($4) and a flat white ($4). The cafe-meets-wine-bar has all the toys, including a charcuterie fridge loaded up with local meats and a Berkel meat slicer to present charcuterie at its best. Name brand pig pops up across the breakfast menu, so we added Berkshire Gold bacon ($4) to our vegetarian selections.
Despite not knowing who he was, Dr. Martyâs crumpets ($16.50) won us both with sautĂŠed exotic mushrooms, black garlic, cured egg yolk, and ricotta salata (a hard Italian sheepâs whey cheese thatâs perfect for grating). The mushroomsâshimeji & oysterâwere particularly flavoursome, prompting me to ask the waitress for their supplier & then make a quick trip to Wagga Fruit Supply to take some...
