Bassendean Fish & Chips — Restaurant in Western Australia

Went on 9th Nov 2021 for the first time after reading other people's reviews. Owner was friendly and chatty maybe because l was the only customer at 5.30pm, ordered a piece of shark, 5 potato cakes and 2 dim sims, owner said it was sourced from shark bay, the meat was reddish in colour so l had commented it wasn't a gummy (being a ex Victorian) as gummy is white. The batter was crunchy, the dim sims weren't battered when deep fried an the potato scallops were commercially sourced not hand cut by the owner. The cost was $19.60 pretty much in line with prices of other fish an chip shops in the Morley area. Overall my experience was pleasant fish was good, when l said l preferred it double dipped the owner said he was happy to do that for me on my next visit. I would be going back...

This place has changed hands and menus so frequently over the last few years, it can be a good bet by the time this is posted, there will be new owners. Anyhoo...lets go, saw the open sign flashing in direct contradiction to the open hours painted on the shop front...see the opening sentence. Greeted by an abrupt lady, who ended being most helpful regarding chip portions. Ordered my Snapper and Chips and a crab stick...left to buy wine, returned to store, no more customers, watched my chips being twice cooked as is proper (they were delicious) , The oil for my fish was never hot enough, resulting in a horrible soggy batter....on the plus side the batter where cooked was crispy and tasty and I shall return when the fat is hit to see the real deal...I am sure it...

Fish(snapper) was brown in colour and tasteless, chips were a 5/10. Shop was extremely smokey when I entered and couldn’t stay in there after ordering. Menu boards are old and full of masking tape, could do with a bit of a fix up. RESPONCE TO RUDE OWNER!!! You should take peoples advice and look at what you can improve instead of being aggressive! If you go on like this about a bit of constructive criticism then this is a place other people should try to avoid!!!!!!!! I am not local so couldn’t bring the fish back to show you. And recently buying the shop is mo excuse!!!! SECOND RESPONSE TO RUDE OWNER! Please go and look at Centrepoint Fish & Chips in Midland!!! This is a very good shop unlike yours! Shame on you, take the criticism...
