A group of three of us visited Bertie Bassendean for a late lunch/early dinner on Sunday, and we had an absolutely wonderful experience from start to finish.
We were warmly welcomed and positioned ourselves in nice spot inside next to the bar.
The beer on tap was crisp, cold, and refreshing, perfect for the warm afternoon. We kicked things off with plump oysters, a delicious terrine, and a generous serve of sourdough and olives—everything was fresh and flavorful.
For the main course, we had the Sunday roast with pork, which came with crispy crackling and all the classic sides, drizzled with plenty of gravy. It was a generous serving and cooked to perfection.
The special of the day, kingfish crudo, was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious—definitely a highlight of the meal.
We paired our food with wine throughout the meal, and every dish was perfectly complemented by our selections.
Bertie offers exceptional value for money, and we left feeling completely satisfied. We will definitely be back again, and look forward to tackling the cocktail list. We highly recommend this gem of a wine bar - that serves far...

I was one of around 20 guests for a birthday celebration and we sat outside - which was cool on the night; however we were provided with a blanket. ✅
The wine list was extensive; although the wines were quite pricey (I thought).
We ordered oysters, bread and olives for starters - the oysters were deliciously fresh; not large - and very moreish!
I had the chicken pasta special which was cooked well and was tasty. This came with a glass of wine included in the special of the night.
Because no-one thought to take a cake for the birthday girl, I ordered a small dessert cake; and fortunately candles were on hand.
I went to pay for the cake and mentioned that given we’d spent a decent amount on alcohol, entrees and mains; I thought as a goodwill gesture it would have been nice if it was complimentary.
The owner/manager then didn’t charge me; however in hindsight I shouldn’t have mentioned it if it wasn’t intended in the first place. My mistake.
Overall it was a great venue with a...
Read moreOverpriced and underwhelming. Very little in the way of choices for food, but what is available was tasty and well presented although overpriced for what you receive; 5 prawns and a couple of very small roasted peppers does not make a $40 main for me. Extensive wine list but once again appears overpriced ($85 for a $34 bottle of wine appears expensive). We had an 8.30 dinner booking but were told at 9.20 that the kitchen was closing which made us feel we needed to rush to order deserts whilst still eating shares and mains. We were sold on the sticky toffee pudding but again disappointed when told that only one was left so a dilemma for the four of us. No table ordering is available so ordering at the bar is required when you’re ready, which at this price point is an opportunity missed to engage with patrons and feels a little cheeky. By 10.00pm the place was empty so home we went. The bar could be so much more, however is let down by a pretentious feel and under engagement. It’s the small things that count for me and maybe I expected a...
