I have been frequenting Caff on Broadway for sometime. The coffee is fantastic, the staff are lovely. Firstly I would like to apologise to the staff that were working today and another two times previously. I should have spoken up at the time and I'm sorry that I didn't. "The standard you walk past is the standard you accept" and I dont accept what I have witnessed from the owner/manager who is a woman. She is abusive towards the young staff, belittling them in front of customers on the top of her voice. Anytime I have seen her come into front of house she is causing absolute disorganised chaos. The staff dont smile at all they keep their head down whilst she hurls abuse at them. I have seen Liam previously stick up for himself as she was abusing him and she didn't let up just kept going and going. These people are on minimum wage, very very young probably still at school, trying to earn money to pay their way for different reasons, may not come from a stable home, or maybe they have their own challenges at school - who knows, but they shouldn't have to go to work and be abused. Threatening to dock some ones pay because they were a little late, yelling out "where's Liam he should be here etc", well I can tell you where Liam was, he was outside teaching a young new member of staff how to set the tables. Sure be firm but encourage, teach/train and build peoples confidence to do a great job. You are not the only cafe in the area that serves great coffee, there are many within 1-2km radius which I will frequent more often as I wont be returning. And to the young staff don't allow people to treat you this way. There is a place called Fair Work Australia use them if you are being harassed, bullied or...
Read moreWell, this was a rollercoaster of a breakfast—mostly downhill, but with a surprising caffeine-powered high at the end.
Let’s start with the eggs Benedict. Or should I say, eggs Benedead inside? Two hairs in the dish—yes, two—and eggs that somehow managed to be both rubbery on the outside and disturbingly raw on the inside. It’s like they couldn’t decide whether to cook them or not, so they just gave up halfway through. The hollandaise sauce was the saving grace—tangy, smooth, and clearly the only one doing its job that morning.
Next up, the crushed avocado and feta. Except… where was the avocado? Where was the feta? I felt like a detective searching for clues among a pile of underseasoned spinach, bland tomato, and an overwhelming amount of bread. The dish was completely unseasoned—not even a hint of salt or pepper. This had the potential to be fresh and vibrant but turned out to be the culinary equivalent of elevator music: forgettable and a little sad.
The croissant? Meh. Let’s just say I’ve had better from the supermarket.
Now for the unexpected stars of the show—the cappuccino and mocha. Both were rich, smooth, and exactly what we needed to recover from the trauma of the main dishes. If we do order again, it’ll be for the coffee only—preferably in person, where we can watch it be made without a side of...
Read moreThe food was nice, but the attitude of a woman who looked like the manager was unpleasant. When ordering a matcha latte, I asked not to put any powder on it, including cinnamon powder (since other cafes sometimes sprinkle cinnamon powder on top of a matcha latte), and the staff misunderstood my order and brought me a chai latte. I brought the chai latte back to the counter and the staff apologized and said she would bring the matcha latte. After a while, a slightly older looking Asian lady who appeared to be the manager came and said to me, “Because you said cinnamon powder, the staff misunderstood your order was chai latte.” She said this over and over again two or three times with a blaming tone of voice. I was quite uncomfortable with her blaming tone and behavior, but I held back because I didn't want to make a scene. I had already heard about this lady's rather mean and aggressive way of service from a couple of friends before, but I didn't pay much attention to it. Today when I experienced it myself, it was truly unpleasant. Unfortunately I don't think I will ever visit this café again...
