HIGHLY RECOMMEND booking a table if you are dining at Penang House on a Friday night. The restaurant was full when I arrived at 7pm, except for the table that I easily booked over the phone on the same day in the afternoon 📞📖
Parking is scarce, as Penang House is located at the Mandurah Foreshore, so I always park at the Smart Street Woolworths carpark (which is a 5 minute walk away).
The restaurant was very noisy, but eventually got quieter when more people left between 8pm to 8:30pm. This meant that I had to speak louder to my friends, despite sitting at the same table near the front of Penang House 🗣
There were two waitresses attending to the tables, which resulted in difficulties calling them over and food waiting times being ~40 minutes to an hour long. The waitress that served our table acknowledged and apologised for the long waiting time. She was knowledgeable about the dishes and was able to advise us of the ingredients.
My two friends and I ordered the Special Fried Rice, Szechuan Beef and Penang Prawns. The food was delicious and a little bit on the sweet side. The food portions were filling for the three of us; we just managed to finish all three dishes. My friends also ordered takeaway; this was cooked and provided after our meal, which arrived in a timely manner, likewise with the Sago Pudding with Palm Syrup and Coconut Milk.
Good meals and good service. I would like to return to Penang House for the lunch menu.
Note: Food photos (except the Penang Prawns and Sago dessert) were photographed half way...
Read moreAfter reading so many glowing reviews, it was with high hopes that we ordered dinner tonight. We’ve been looking for a really good Chinese restaurant here for years! So, how did we go? Well to start with, ordering by phone was super easy! The lady at the restaurant was very nice! The servings were quite generous. And……..that’s where the good news ends. We ordered chicken with black bean sauce, spring rolls, vegetable fried rice and vegetable omelette. Spring rolls were good but at 2 for $8.90 they should’ve been. The chicken with black bean sauce looked beautiful but it was chock full of baby corn which isn’t our favorite. On top of that, the sauce was very bland 😞. The vegetable omelette was very tasty but, the accompanying oyster sauce was, again, very bland 😔. The vegetable fried rice was more like steamed rice with some vegetables stirred through it.
Sadly, not a nearly as good as...
Read moreFrom the days of being an advertiser on Class 96.5FM, before the Govt changes, right up until now (over 20 years) the food has always been very good, Owners and staff wonderful and the updated premises are refreshingly nice (but could do with a little acoustic dampening for us old farts!) Recently the food has somehow improved even more to be amazingly tasty and perfect and the reasonable prices seed us now dining in every week and also enjoying takeaways. To be known by name, what to bring or not bring to the table, the wine glass and LLB soft drink that is required and knowing our regular order that rarely changes is so refreshing and welcoming. From our regular food to large catering orders the wonderful crew at Penang house has never let us down! Not all restaurants cook the same dishes in the same manner and Penang House does it...
