We went to BSM(first time) on Thursday night for a pre-show dinner for my wife's birthday and were floored by the experience. With a discerning palate due to the fact that both my parents are chefs, i was amazed by the authenticity and high level of food preparedness. The combinations and the intertwining of the flavours were perfect. We ordered three dishes :Sate Chicken with peanuts sauce served with rice cakes, a traditional Balinese pork roast and lastly the staple of Balinese cuisine " The Rendang Beef" topping off with a homemade 10/10 spiciness sambal chilli!!. The meals served were well proportioned but the icing on the cake(haha food pun) was the service we received that night. The hostesses were friendly constantly checked in on us at to make sure we had everything we needed. The Chef/owner came out of the kitchen and conversed with us as if we had been there for years and made us feel extremely at ease.We learned that the restaurant helps to support Illawarra region by using local produce in their cuisines and that is very cool indeed. Being from Thailand i rarely go out to "South East Asian" restaurants anymore due to the fact that a lot of the cuisines have been somewhat westernised in a misguided attempt to please local's taste. If you have a passion for authentic Balinese cuisine and love for chilli(Like me) do yourself a favour and get down there but make sure you call and book as it can get busy there. The only down side to this night was that i was too full to indulge myself in the other delights BSM has to offer, well i guess i have to go back

If you're craving something authentic, flavorful, and beautifully presented, this Balinese restaurant in Wollongong is an absolute must-visit. From the moment you step inside, you're welcomed with warm hospitality and a calming tropical atmosphere that immediately transports you to the heart of Bali. The menu is a celebration of traditional Balinese flavors, with rich, aromatic spices and fresh ingredients shining in every dish. The service was attentive without being intrusive, and the staff clearly take pride in sharing their culture through food. To top it off, the restaurant offers a great selection of Indonesian teas. Whether you're a fan of Southeast Asian cuisine or just looking for something different, this place is a true gem. A five-star experience in both food and atmosphere—I’ll definitely be returning!

A new day, a new tasty treat: this is the Nasi Goreng. Tasty, chilli bitey rice with fresh bean sprouts, tofu and a crisp shallots over the top. Add a jasmine tea and it's a soft, lime driven lunch. Relax here, it's worth the lunch time. There's also a wonderful bento-like lunch takeaway. From my last visit: I'm a creature of habit, I know. Try the salty, tasty, fragrant nasi goreng: with crunchy bean sprouts, soft caramel-like onions and capsicum, fresh carrots, stir fried with tofu, rice, red rice and topped with crunchy nuts. A real delight in Wollongong. With hot green tea and crispy prawn chips, it’s worth two visits. Next time I’ll have my eyes on the slow cooked rendang.

This was one of the most terrible experiences I've ever had. After booking in our reservation for 7pm (with email evidence of the reservation) and arriving on time; we were first told that our reservation was mistakenly made to be 7:30pm and then instead of apologizing they wanted to get us seated in what looked like a make shift table in the lower level which was definitely not to our liking. The waitress was terribly rude and had a really bad attitude too. So we respectfully said no and unwillingly left to return in 30 mins for the 7:30pm spot. The waitress said she would call us if a table became available earlier. But no one called us and when we returned at 7:30pm multiple tables were available , yet she did not call and inform us. On returning too we were seated on our table without any warm welcome, and the rude waitress didn't even explain/describe the menu or tell us about the chef specials or anything. Just cold, rude, unwelcoming behaviour. Thankfully the rude waitress did not service us for the rest of the night. And our table service wait staff was pleasant enough. Yet, this all was a mood killer but would have been fine if we got some amazing food. But unfortunately after all this, the food we got was shocking and a total write-off. The Tempeh rendang was dry and the sauce was overly hot with no other taste at all. The Nasi Goreng was so full of chilli that it overpowered everything else. Our full order was over $120 (for 2 of us) which was rather expensive. All in all we basically got expensive bowls full of chilli with no other taste or flavour and a rude waitress. Money down the drain!! We will never be going back here, and do not recommend this place at all. We have been to Bali and are in awe of their customer service ways, their polite behaviour and their delicious Balinese cuisine. So we totally can see the stark difference and are utterly...
