Worse Sevice ever - The food might be good but has to the rudest and worst service I have experienced in Wollongong. Its happened several times now at this venue so if you are not kid-friendly put that clearly on your website, that your preference is not have children at your venue. Hire proper wait staff not uni kids that need better manners and need to learn the art of customer service. Specifically your hostess on Sunday was extremely rude and when her behaviour was pointed out to her, her feedback was to take it up with her manager.
In response to your comments on my review: Your staff member responded rudely when I asked if we could move tables as there was not enough space. I asked a question and her rude response was the cause of the frustration. To be be clear she angrily responded - ‘we can’t play musical chairs for your family’. There was no need for a response like that. There were two free tables, and I just asked if we could move to a bigger table. The water was placed on the floor because there was not enough space on the table. The bottle and glasses were neatly placed in the nook of the table legs and as your staff member placed the 4 x plates of food on the wobbly table, it fell and broke. I tried to call for a staff members’ attention but no one came to the table. I went to the bathroom, to wash my hands, there was no waste bin. I went to pay at the till and asked to speak to a manger - at this point your team member finally realised that maybe the service was inadequate and voided the coffees as a gesture of goodwill. A little too late in my view…to realise at the end of the dining experience, this is not how you treat customers. When I was leaving, I told the hostess that the way she expressed herself, was not appropriate nor very kind - her response was to address the comments with her manager as she did nothing wrong. When asked who was the manager on duty was, I was directed to the barista who quoted ‘I can be the manager if you want me to be’.
I have worked in hospitality for many years, you are in the business of food….and customer service.
I tried to call your premises to speak to a manager as clearly the staff on the day were not interested in listening to feedback or discussing the matter. Seems like your response here is just as a good as your instore table service….take a stab or ignore the paying customers vs actually addressing your customer...
Read moreWhilst it is the bagels and coffee brewing that Opus push as it's drawcards, it was once home to one of the most incredible chilli scrambles. Once one of its great points of differentiation, the chilli scramble used to be one of the the best breakfast foods money could buy and any critic would be hard pressed not to consider it bordering world-class. To be able to have such standard of food available in Wollongong was a delight. This is unfortunately no longer the case, with the recipe and menu item changed new 'Really Good Scrambled Eggs'. The menu doesn't lie, the scramble is still objectively really nice, they still source great local ingredients, and is avaiable with the same great chilli oil. However, there are notable flaws with this that drop it back amongst the crowd of other cafes, and frankly for various reasons make it something barely worth ordering. The size reduction has been significant, going from two slices of sourdough down to one, as well as removing the delicious hash brown and what appears a lesser amount of eggs used. This takes it from a breakfast that was once filling and worth every dollar down to an item that does much less than provide a filling breakfast. This wouldn't be an issue if it didn't still have a $21 price tag on the chilli rendition - $20+ should get anyone anywhere a satisfactory size cafe breakfast and frankly this serving size now falls well short of the price tag. The change in the way that the eggs are scrambled from being folded now back to a traditional scramble has also left them runny to the point of being soggy sometimes and flavour aside is little more impressive than any home-cooked eggs. Please return to the old way of cooking the Chilli scramble, add back the missing piece of sourdough and the delicous hash brown rather than having it as a $6 side, and back to pricing it in the mid 20s. A return to this will bring back one of the best breakfast's money can possibly buy, returning Opus the reputation of being the benchmark for the perfect...

It is probably one of our favourite cafe visits in a long time. We were impressed by the friendly service and breakfast dishes that delivered on quality and taste with much of their ingredients made in house. The bagels and bread is so fresh and fluffy, the eggs perfectly whipped and the accompanying sauces were delicious.
We loved the Nduja Fried Eggs; which is 2 Fried eggs, nduja whip and guindillas on Pane Paradiso sourdough. A good spicy kick to the dish and the bread is so fluffy and delicious.
We also tried their Chilli scrambled eggs. These scrambled eggs were perfectly scrambled, and served with chilli + garlic oil and shallot on Pane Paradiso. We also recommend ordering a hashbrown, made in house - this comes with kewpie Mayo and jalepeno hot sauce! One of the best around.
The menu is otherwise predominately bagels; we got a plain one with in house made cream cheese and found the bagels to be nice and light and good quality. You can also order salmon bagels, bacon and egg bagels and more.
We also love their coffee, and all served using stunning ceramics. Note: they even do a Biscoff latte!
Don’t forget to grab a muffin, cookie or donut for later!
Staff were really accommodating and friendly with us and our little baby and we appreciate that welcoming...
