FOOD This is by far the most disappointing aspect about this experience. There are over 300 reviews with a 4.5-star rating. The food absolutely failed to reflect this. We ordered the sushi and sashimi platter and the chicken cutlet curry rice. Total is $61. $44.80 for that platter was a robbery. The portion sizes for the sashimi were a joke and the wasabi that came with the platter was dry like clay, rolling off the cucumber sushi it arrived on, and anything else we put it on. Regarding the curry rice, it was so unbelievably bland. It was so bad that store bought box curry would better.

SERVICE The service was okay. However, I think they forgot about us. We were sitting outside and were waiting to order, the waitress took the order for the table Infront of us, but she never took ours afterwards. Fair enough, she may have thought we needed more time, but we waited for a LONG TIME to order. Long enough for the other tables food to arrive, mistakenly, to our table. I think it was then, they realised that we had not taken our order yet because shortly afterwards another waitress came out to take it

ATMOSPHERE We sat outside as there were no tables inside. We were fine with that, completely reasonable considering we were 'walk-ins'. What I don't understand is that there are clearly heating lamps along the side of the walls, it's freezing, and we expressed our discomfort, it would have been nice for a heating lamp to be turned on. Just felt like those who were sitting outside were completely neglected.

Will not return. Even though the service and atmosphere weren’t the best, it was the food that put the final nail...

We went to this restaurant after reading all the other positive Google reviews, but very disappointed at the service here.

We were seated in the outside area (after letting the staff know), but were forgotten about and had to head inside to flag someone down to make orders.

It took more than an hour to get any sort of food after we ordered. At the 45 minute mark, I asked the waiter how much longer it would be before we got the food, and his response was: "oh you ordered already? "

Another 10 minutes, and no confirmation of how much longer for food. When I went inside to ask again - the same waiter just pointed me to the front desk, so after checking with the kitchen (who struggled to find our docket) advised "it will be soon".

From that point, it took ANOTHER 15 minutes to get half of the dishes we ordered, at which point we gave up and cancelled the rest of the order.

At no point in our whole time there were we offered an explanation, apology or anything resembling customer service.

The food itself was mediocre. The tofu & veggie udon had very little tofu and was too salty. The chicken skewers were burnt (maybe as a result of trying to rush the order), although the prawn tempura bento was ok.

If it was just a one-off mistake and the staff had handled it better we would have been back to give them a second chance, but there wasn't even a "thank you" or "sorry for forgetting your order" when...

Tucked away opposite the local drive-through bottle shop, Sakura Sushi in Wollongong offers an authentic Japanese dining experience in a cozy and inviting setting. With an open kitchen and sashimi bar, the ambiance is warm and intimate, and the option of outdoor seating adds a nice touch of versatility.

We started with the sashimi and sushi platter, which was nothing short of extraordinary. The sashimi included an assortment of impeccably fresh fish, from silky salmon and tender tuna to delicate slices of kingfish, all cut with expert precision. The sushi was equally impressive, featuring perfectly seasoned rice paired with a variety of flavorful and beautifully presented fillings.

The seafood hotpot was a true highlight. It arrived bubbling with a rich, umami-packed broth and was filled to the brim with an abundance of fresh seafood, including succulent prawns, plump scallops, tender mussels, and crisp vegetables. Every spoonful was a celebration of bold, well-balanced flavors that left us craving more.

To complete the experience, we enjoyed a dark Japanese beer with a smooth, malty profile that paired beautifully with the meal.

Sakura Sushi delivers an exceptional dining experience, combining fresh ingredients, masterful preparation, and a welcoming atmosphere. This is a place where authenticity shines through, and we’ll definitely be...

It hurts me to give such bad review. Two star as I would like to know what was given instead of the "tuna". It has a weird texture, did not taste like tuna and was incredibly fluorescent pink. If you don't have tuna it's okay not to serve it. The menu needs an update. Agedashi is written down as deep fried bean curd and Edamame is written down as green beans. Also on top, the waitress had to check with the kitchen whether the deep fried bean curd was indeed agedashi. - Starting with the agedashi, there was a lack of the dashi part - The grilled eel was good - The tempura batter was not light and fluffy, was eggy and heavy, and most where sweet potatoes - The batter for the kaaragi chicken was also very eggy, but well fried - Seafood teppanyaki was not bad - Lastly the sushi and sashimi platter, all were very nice and fresh except for the questionable "tuna" The place has the potential to be a nice cosy family Japanese restaurant. If you are understaff and busy, think it would be better to turn customers away than leaving uncleared tables everywhere and also leaving outdoor customers waiting unreasonably long for service.

This is our favourite Japanese restaurant in Wollongong. We try and visit Sakura at least once a fortnight. Be sure to make a reservation, as they can get really busy. The staff are friendly, but the main rave component is their food. We've had nearly one of everything on their menu/s. The sushi and sashimi platters are a great way to tantalise the taste buds and as they say- sharing is caring. BYO wine is an added bonus. If I could make one comment because I think it's important= to the staff- someone needs to give the bathroom a good clean.
