Gasthaus zur Salzmühle | Bier- u Weinstube — Restaurant in Bad Ischl

I think it's the first time that I'm writing a poor review in my life, and the only good thing of the all experience, was that we laughed so hard about the whole thing. First of all, as we walked in, we could see two dogs strolling in the kitchen so sanitary wise, I didn't feel super comfortable. We sat outside, with other clients, but we waited for more than a half hour only to order some drinks and food. After that, the drinks came quickly but we waited for an hour and a half to receive the food... only to receive something we hadn't ordered. My friends asked for vegetarian omelettes which came with ham... and on the menu, it was written it'd be served with a salad and potatoes which were completely forgotten. We just had a lame ham omelette on a plate... that's all... after more than an hour an a half... we complained and received a cheese omelette (finally!) but still with nothing else on the plate. I had ordered the grilled vegetables with the egg and potatoes and I must say it's the most pathetic dish I've ordered at a restaurant in my whole life... The veggies were barely defrosted, the egg cold and the quantity was not enough at all. They gave us one piece of bread for three people, which we eventually paid when we left... Friends who had came before told us it varies often and you never know what you'll get... On top of that, every staff member were quite drunk, which would explain why they kept forgotting us... They kept taking shots and drinks with the clients around us, which made us quite uncomfortable. Anyway, what a night to remember that we'll never...

At first I think the atmosphere is so great cuz many people sit around and talking happily. However we ordered a soup a dish of beef and a dumpling asa well as a dish of fried fish. The beer came very fast, after that over an hour we just got our beef. The only things insides is just to pieces of little potatoes and four pieces of small beef and all of this is soooo salty. I never had a meal like this. I felt so starving so I can only ate bread. An hour later we ask the manager why the soup didn’t come he said he forgot it……. I think this is so ridiculous for such a high mark restaurant. Also the bread is extra and you need to pay for each bread (1.50 each). Angry and...

Ein Lobgesang auf die Salzmühle und die Familie Fessl.

Ich muss vorausschicken, ich bin etwas "biased". Ich kenne die Salzmühle seit über 25 Jahren. Und zum Glück ist sie noch wie eh und je (ok, die WC's wurden mal renoviert - hat nicht geschadet.)

Wer als Tourist schnell was essen will, dem sei der Schachtelwirt fast ums Eck empfohlen. Wer Wirtshauskultur pur spüren will, muss etwas Zeit und Verständnis mitnehmen. Denn die Speisen werden frisch in der sehr (sehr) kleinen Küche zubereitet. Auf die Qualität der Speisen legt der Chef sehr viel Wert. Freitag sieht man ihn auch Waren am Wochenmarkt einkaufen.

Die Karte ist überschaubar - jedoch das Rumpsteak die Perle! Selten bekommt man ein so geschmackvolles Steak zu leistbaren Preisen. Man sieht gerne darüber hinweg, dass die Gmundner Keramik schon einige "Motzn" hat, schließlich könnte der Kaiser schon drauf gegessen haben. Die Pommes sind knackig (aber vom Großhandel) - die Innviertlerknödel typisch und frisch gemacht.

Die negativen Kommentare kann man getrost ignorieren, wenn man alte Wirtshäuser mag und sich von dem Stil und Humor der Fessels tragen lässt. Deutsche Ungeduld und Korrektheit ist fehl am Platz - auch als Gast muss man machmal mit-improvisieren und Verständnis mitbringen.

Die Salzmühle ist in Ischl ein Unikat - von jung bis alt geht hin, vom Oberarzt bis um "Trangler" . Man kann guten Kaffee trinken, ein gutes Steak essen oder so lange mit viel zu viel Bier, Wein und Schapps feiern, bis die Lampen schwingen.

Möge es die Salzmühle noch lange geben und die Lampen weiter zu...
