k.u.k. Hofwirt zu Ischl — Restaurant in Bad Ischl

This was by far the worst dining experience I have ever had, not only in Austria but in all my travels. From the very beginning, we felt disrespected and discriminated against. Despite the restaurant not being busy, no waiter offered to help us. When we asked to sit at an empty table, the waiter arrogantly told us we could not sit there and instead led us to another table, where the menus were thrown at us with rudeness. Shortly after, we saw Austrian guests walk in and sit freely wherever they wanted without being questioned. The difference in treatment was obvious and deeply upsetting. When it came time to order, we were told to put away our water bottles — which were unopened — and even after we complied, the waiter repeatedly shouted at us, “This is a restaurant! Put that away!” Meanwhile, Austrian customers at the next table had outside bottles on display with no issue at all. This double standard made the racial discrimination clear. At that point, we felt so uncomfortable that we wanted to leave, but the manager came out and threatened us, saying that since we had already ordered, it would be “against the law” to leave, and even suggested they would call the police. We had not even been served any food yet! This experience ruined what had otherwise been a wonderful trip where we had been treated with kindness and respect everywhere else in Austria. Unfortunately, this restaurant seems to employ people with arrogance, zero sense of hospitality, and, most disturbingly, discriminatory behavior. I cannot recommend this...

We are going to this restaurant for the last 7 years, but today had a terrible experience:( We came a few minutes after 21:00 and couldn’t order anything to eat. So we ordered 6 glasses of beer and a few cocktails, but as we were ready hungry and couldn’t order any food, we decided to have a sandwich we brought with us. A waiter came to us and in a very rude manner told us that we are not allowed to eat anything we brought with us! This is ridiculous!!! We are outside, can’t order any food, we spend lots of money with drinks, why can’t we have our own sandwich??? Especially, waiter being so rude!!! It’s so pity, but after so many years, I am not willing to go to this...

Food is okay, nothing special but not bad. That being said problem with eating here on terace are the wasps. As soon as food arrived you had bunch of wasps buzzing around your head, plate, etc. I literally had to stuff potatoes in my mouth, take the meat in tissue and stay away from table and they were still buzzing around me. I wouldn't eat here again if you paid me unfortunately because I simply don't want bunch of wasps around my head, on my meal and having to watch not to get stung or eat one of those pests...if you wanna eat here, do yourself a favor and go inside.
