I recently spent a delightful evening at Gasthaus zur Alten Press, tucked into the bustling Griesgasse in Graz. As soon as I stepped in, the cozy, rustic charm—with its wooden panels, vaulted nooks, and historic stone flooring—made me feel instantly at home. I began with a flavorful Rindsuppe (beef soup) complete with strudel and leberknödel—perfectly hearty and warming. For my main, I savored their signature Schopfbraten (pork roast)—tender and rich, served with lovingly prepared sides. Vegetarians aren’t left out: the Topfen-Hirse-Laibchen (quark-hillet patties) were a delightful balance of texture and flavor. I rounded off the meal with a classic Milchrahmstrudel, light and creamy, truly a pleasant finish. The service stood out—naturally friendly, attentive, and just the right pace to make the evening feel relaxed and cared for. Gasthaus zur Alten Press delivers honest, regional cuisine in a warm, timeless setting—great for a comforting and authentic taste of Graz. I’ll definitely be back to explore more of their hearty menu next time.

We came here as it was one of my dream wedding banquet venue with this traditional Austrian interior. I love the environment and atmosphere. The old male waiter gave an amazing service so my fiancé tipped him in the end. Their Turkey schnitzel is so juicy and unique, love every bite of it; also the side salad with pumpkin seed oil. Their sobert desert is very refreshing, it is a must try.

A lovely place to enjoy traditional Styrian style cuisines. Highly recommend the pork cheek, so tender and juicy. The vibe is quite chill with tons of antiques and Austrian styled decorations. Waiters can speak both German and English, the menu are also in both languages.

My wife and myself decided to go here for dinner. They had tables inside and outside but refused to let us dine in with a table to ourselves. Kept trying to Seat us with other people and share a table when there were other couples that had their own table.

After we were told this we were polite and asked if we could sit outside and the host said "No, it's too cold for us to go outside right now". While there were two tables outside with 4 persons per table.

What is the problem with not wanting to sit and share a table with strangers? Maybe some of us don't like that. If you have plenty of tables available why not let us have one.

They just decided they didn't want our business so we went to another place that was...

We found this place because it's close to where we parked and is labeled as austrian cuisine. We didn't expect the quality to be so high at all, especially considering the price. The atmosphere is great in the garden which is meticulously decorated. Special commendation to our server Dejan who was welcoming, funny and gave great recommendations. He also handled three tables around us in three languages. The menu is varied but everything was prepared expertly. Can't recommend the...
