Me and my friend wanted to try the typical Austrian coffee shop experience. Turned out to be a 0/10 disaster. We had to wait in queue to get in (that was okay) and we ended up waiting for more than 20 minutes before even getting a hello from the waiters (old and grumpy Austrians). They were just passing by and obviously ignoring us while some tables were definitely available. Anyways, at some point he comes up to us and asks us how many we are, we answer « two » and he simply turns his head to the group behind us (they were 4) and finds them a table. Not a single word, not a single explanation. We decide to wait a little bit more and he comes up to us a second time, we’re still 2 so he declines us again and finds a table for the other people behind us. This time I got a little mad and told him we had been waiting for more than half an hour and still haven’t been seated, without ANY word from anyone. His explanation is that no small table were available and, as bigger groups were waiting, we would be stealing their experience if we took a table for 4 but were only 2. This excuse could have worked if it wasn’t said in his despicable tone. He then gave me a smile as if he was proud to have pissed me off. Anyways, probably the most haughty, disrespectful, odious and unpleasant waiter I had ever seen in my life. We’re pretty sure he dared to talk to us that way because we are young girls that don’t speak German, he would have certainly NEVER treated two business man this way. So we left and got a Latte in a very cute library/coffee shop nearby:)We’ll find the Apfelstruddel somewhere else ! Wishing I could rate this place with 0 stars but unfortunately google doesn’t...

I have heard a lot about this coffee in social media and I was so happy to go and get a good meal there, I will not talking about waiting a lot before get access to the coffee but it is the same thing to other well known coffee and restaurants. It is Fine after waiting I get a table, and I was solo because I did solo travel to vienna. Unfortently, when I order, I was waiting for more than 30 mins without getting what I ordered. The problem is that there is other person that comes after me and they have been served, Ok It is fine dont worry lady we will wait and why not try to ask the waiter, which was an extremely unpleasant and rude waiter unfortunately, and ater he left when I asked I wait for another 30 min, because SINCE I HAVE WASTE ALL THIS TIME IT IS NOT BAD TO WAIT MORE, BUT UNFORTUNATELY THE WAITER WAS SO RUDE AND HE LOOKS BAD TO ME LIKE I ASKED FOR HAVING SOMETHING NEWS, AND EVEN A GIRL THAT WAS SETTING THERE SHE LOOKS TO ME LIKE SHE TRY TO SAY DONT WORRY HE IS RUDE TO EVERYONE. I changed the place and fortently I get what I went in another place which is also most known in Wien. Try to be nice to people, especially person that comes alone , because u dont know if they are OK or not. I will never never recommend this place to any of my friends. If it were possible, I'd put zero on the service, but it's not possible, so I'm...

visited on a saturday at around 2pm. it was so crowded that the queue went all the way to the outside of the cafe. despite many available seats, they took really long to seat us. there was no “hold on a second” or any nod of acknowledgment that we were waiting for a seat. every server was just ignoring the presence of the queue.

after being seated, there were no instructions on how to order or to call them back when we were ready, etc. we decided what to order quickly and when we tried to call the servers over, they actively ignored us as well.

finally, we managed to order. the food came in a very odd order. firstly, the chocolate cake (sachertorte) came, before all the food. next, the eiernockerl mit salad and rindsuppe mit frittatas came. the eiernockerl was bland and tasted essentially like egg omelette. we had to add additional salt for it to taste like something at all. the rindsuppe was good but a really small bowl. we also ordered a melange, which was basically a mocha. but it came last, after all the food came, and we had to prompt the server to serve it before we came. worst mocha ever, tasted like a regular latte.

overall, the service and atmosphere was not fantastic. this place came recommended by a friend but sad to say, i wouldn’t recommend this at all. it isn’t worth your...

One of the historic cafe to consider visiting in Vienna is Cafe Sperl on Gumpendorfer Strasse near the Naschmarkt. Opening hours are 7am to 10pm (Mon - Sat) and 10am to 8pm (Sundays). Cafe Sperl's history dates back to 1880. This was the meeting place for quite a few architects, writers, musicians, political and other important figures around the end of the 19th century and is now a popular place for residents and visitors from around the world. Entering Cafe Sperl, you immediately encounter the classic decor and atmosphere of a late 19th-century Viennese cafe. Just grab an open table or booth that you find available. Wait staff will bring menus with German and English language so placing an order is relatively easy. We recently visited early in the afternoon on a weekday and were able to find a small table immediately. On the occasion, we tried the apple strudel and the signature Sperl wafer along with an espresso and cappuccino. Desserts were both very sweet, more than we normally prefer. Coffee drinks tasted fine and as expected. In the end, we prefer the atmosphere over the desserts at Cafe Sperl but find this to be a neat place for the classic Viennese cafe experience in Vienna. It is well worth stopping by if you intend to spend time in this area during your visit to the city.

Just had probably the worst meal of the decade here with my wife. Indifferent, if not rude, waiters who kept evading us for service. I made a booking a month ago expecting a memorable first meal in Vienna - well I had an unbelievably bad experience. We arrived at 7 pm, no soup (both today’s special or the beef soup) available. Ordered a pot of green tea that came as a pot of hot water… struggled to get the attention of the waiter and when we did? No apology whatsoever but simply returned with a tea bag (after 10 minutes when the pot of water was no longer boiling hot). And he didn’t offer to change it! Foodwise, the “boiled” sausages (wiener wurstchen) were of canned food quality and the Wiener schnitzel was dry, slightly salty and lack of any flavour. We didn’t risk to order anything further… We didn’t wait for the bill because the waiters just kept ignoring us. We walked to the counter, (still had to wait for the same rude waiter who act as if he was busy doing something), paid and walked out laughing about how silly it was for us to have looked forward to our dinning experience in this “famous” cafe. We just finished our second half dinner (a margherita pizza with good drinks that were much more enjoyable) in another diner nearby. So be warned guys! Stay away from this cafe!
