Underrated treasure at the Salzburg Airport

Here can get yourself a really good and healthy lunch if you know what you are doing. 😉 Marktrestaurant (“Market Restaurant”) is a self-service restaurant that serves three different really good dishes on daily base (one vegetarian) complete with soup and salad. On weekends you can also order two types of pizza if really nothing matches your taste. The quality and taste of the food is exceptionally good for a self-service restaurant at an airport. This place also serves as the canteen for the airport workers and is well visited at noon. So if you want avoid waiting in line try to come before 11:45 or after 12:30. There are three price levels for the food: € 9 for just a main dish, € 10 for main dish plus soup OR salad, € 11 for full menu, main dish plus soup AND salad. Alternatively, you can have a small (€5) or a large (€7) plate of salad. Be careful if you mix ie. just soup and a salad, they will charge you a full menu. If you are just looking for a snack go back downstairs to the bakery (Resch&Frisch). Ignore the sandwiches, the sweet pieces, and the beverages in bottles right at the entrance. Look at the price tags and you know why. Instead fill up a glass at the beverage dispenser with tap water, tap water is free of charge, fresh draft beer you get at the cashier. You can also just come for a meal without flying anywhere, show your parking ticket at the cashier and they will punch it for a reduced rate. (ok, there is a sign that says minimum consummation €15) Make sure to ask for the English menu if you need it, they try to avoid it but hey, it’s an airport. Could the staff be friendlier? A horrible place. Prices more than 2-4 times more expensive than other comparable places here, and the food quality is awful! We had to pay 14€ for two sandwiches with salami and cheese, and they turned out quite old and tasted horrible. Couldn’t even finish them and had to throw away.
