We Texans like to think we know burgers, but my vast gastronomic horizons have just been expanded. Wow! The Dazwischen Burger is no “in between” experience. Be sure to eat this burger with your hands as is befitting of a full immersive culinary excellence. You can see this man’s passion for traditional American cooking raised to the power of 10. Hyperbole? Nope, it’s the outcome of pure dedication, making everything from scratch- his pommel frites are double cooked with an incredible homemade seasoning. No detail has been overlooked, there is even French’s style mustard in a yellow condiment bottle- my Tex heart throbs;) the clincher is the fact that he has devoted himself to reproducing American classics but in the process he’s merged the Wiener discipline with southern USA bacon. Yes he makes his own bacon and pork rinds. Not to mention pickles and pimento cheese. I’m going back just for the BLT. oh and his chick-faux-La is better than the stateside version (heresy I know, but tongue facts are facts). Did I mention the chocolate milk shake, all I can say is dang-howdy and this is the shining example of how the merger, the in-between meeting of Austrian ice cream and southern shakes show we really are better together. You good sir deserve a Nobel prize for this unity...
Read moreLiving in Vienna for years has brought many amazing experiences, but none have ever given me that feeling of being back home in Canada. Until now. This is an amazing place that everyone needs to go try. Such an amazing chef. Expertly recreating some Canadian classics. This isn't some lame attempt at Canadian fare, they take days to prepare the dishes, gravy starting from scratch with beef bones, sourcing proper cheese curds from a supplier in Germany that specializes in authentic poutine cheese curds. They even make their own pickles! And the smoked meat! What a sandwich. It is cooked to a flaky meaty perfection. If you want to know what all Canadians dream they could eat again when living abroad, THIS IS IT! My friends in Vienna. Get down to Dazwichen for Poutine Tue-Sat, or on Thursdays when you can get a Montreal Smoked Meat...
Read moreAfter reading about this place in various newspapers we finally managed to visit them.
We took a nice walk along the Donaukanal until Roßauer Lände and paid them a visit. Really homey place with nice outdoor seating and a great selection of refreshing drinks. We had cider and to the surprise of my wife some cherry beet from Hungary which she adores. They have a great selection of beers and craft beers so everybody will find something fitting.
For lunch we opted for the Merguez Royale, the El Cubano, the Chicago Dog and two sides of fries. Service was quick and attentive.
The food was amazing with the El Cubano as the star of the show.
Definitely coming back here! Great owner who takes time to explain and recommend dishes.
Thanks for the...
