I recently discovered Gasthaus Quell in Viennaâs 15th district and absolutely loved it. Tucked away on Reindorfgasse, this place has all the cozy charm of a long-standing local tavern. The warm wood-paneled interior, checkered tablecloths, and friendly chatter make you feel welcomed the moment you walk in.
I tried their Wiener Schnitzel, which was gloriously crispy and generously sized, paired with a hearty goulash and potato salad. The portions were massive and the flavors comforting in the best wayâjust what you'd hope for from authentic Austrian comfort food. A cold draft beer complemented it all perfectly, and the pricesâmostly between âŹ10â20 per mainâfelt more than fair.
The service added to the charmâefficient and cheerful even on a busy evening, with a real sense of genuine hospitality. This tavern clearly has its regulars, and itâs easy to see why: solid food, warm atmosphere, and no fuss.
If youâre in Vienna and craving unpretentious, delicious Austrian classics in a friendly, unassuming setting, Gasthaus Quell is a fantastic pick. Iâll...
Read moreHorrible service. On arrival, as soon as the waiter realized I was foreign, he wanted nothing to do with me. Serving me was like a chore he didn't seem to care for. It's ironic, because he was clearly an immigrant himself. Nothing inviting or friendly about him at all. It seems that so far, in hospitality, the Viennese have this strange tendency to make you feel like you're being herded like cattle, and then they patronize you with an exaggerated and fake "danke/bitte schön!" He wanted to push me out to make room for others, even when I had already asked him for the bill beforehand. Then he had the nerve to point out that service wasn't included. What a joke! No self-awareness. I gave the food runner a tip because she at least smiled, acknowledged me as a human being, and appeared friendly. When I mentioned my experience to her, she said "Sorry, unfortunately, that's Vienna." Otherwise, the food was good, but on the salty...
Read moreQuell is an absolut authentic Viennese pub. In English there is no exact fitting word, in German you say Gasthaus or Wrirtshaus. The food is real authentic Viennese cuisine for moderate prices. My recommendations are the Championschnitzel (porkfilet with creamy champignons with rice)or the Fleischlaberl mit ErdĂ€pfelpĂŒrree( like burgerpatty but with bread, with mashed potatoes and roasted onions, a classic!). There are also nice vegetarian dishes like Spinat mit Rösti und Spiegelei (spinach with roasted potatoes and fried egg, simple but delicious đ) I live around the corner and go regularly there since more than 10 years and quality, atmosphere and friendliness of the waitresses, waiters and the boss always stayed equally high and genuine. To experience a piece of the best side of Vienna go...
