What an unpleasant experience! My partner and I got there at 16:00 (time which according to the info on the Internet the restaurant would open), and we were told that they were still closed, until 18:00. Although their opening time at the entrance of the restaurant read 'Monday to Saturday from 11:00 till 24:00' there was no explanation or apology. Later at 18:00 we have returned to the restaurant. New staff was already there. As we walked in, no one even greeted us, instead they looked surprised to see us and the first thing they said was: "do you have a reservation?" I said no and they immediately replied that they were fully booked, although the space was totally empty at that time. So we stayed at the bar area, as no tables in the restaurant area were available. It took them 30min to come and take our order, and over 1 hour to get served. There was 5 staff members at the restaurant and not more than 5 customers at the time our order was taken. 1 hour after the food was finally served, it could not get worse. There was salad in my plate (something I had specifically requestd not to be served), the steak was not hot anymore and it was quite tasteless. The rice was not that good, and I could feel a awful taste of vinagre on it, and the egg still had some raw parts. The drinks we had ordered "Sumol", did not come in a bottle, instead they served directly in a glass full of ice. The restaurant was cold and the heating was only turned on as some more customers started to arrive. The temperature outside were 6 degrees, so imagine. Also, with so many staff members at the restaurant, no one ever approached our table to check if everything was okay. No one apologised for the delay in the service, no one really showed any care. We immediately paid and walked out of the restaurant. What a terrible experience and a stain in the name of the good and friendly welcoming portuguese culture in a...
Read moreWhile in Vienna, we decided for a change of pace in culinary style, opting for tapas over traditional Austrian fare. We made a reservation and when we arrived it was busy but not overwhelming. We noticed there were a few other reservations on the list as well. We were seated quickly but it took several minutes to get menus and several more just to put in a drink order. There was only one waitress (pulling double duty as hostess) and one bartender who was helping clear tables when not making drinks. Shortly after we finally put our order in, the bartender came over to let us know that the tapas mix we had ordered was not available. They were out of the mainstay ham and cheese necessary to fulfill three menu items under the tapas section, citing extraordinary demand. What? That's like a burger joint at the height of the dinner hour saying "Hey gang sorry but we are out of beef. We didn't actually expect people to show up today." How can you market yourself as a Portuguese tapas restaurant and not have the primary menu items? These weren't daily specials people!!! And how can you not know about the demand? You had a list of reservations. You knew people were coming yet you didn't make the necessary adjustments to wait staff or kitchen items. It was all downhill from there. We ordered a different appetizer (shrimp) which was good. Our entrees were good (calamari and a fish pot) but not great. Our service continued to be spotty at best for the remainder of our visit. If the food was great or amazing, I might have given the review an additional star or two, but the service and the lack of preparation was so overwhelmingly poor, I can't suggest trying this place unless you really have a...
Read moreThe good things: The service was warm, welcoming and happy to help with our special requests and also arranged additional seating even on short notice. The sangria was amazing and I would have loved to get 5 more of them the next time I will visit. But for sure not for the food, see next section why.
The bad things: The food was sadly a big disappointment. The octopus with potatoes maindish for 24€ was overall too fatty and had not enough spices to generate some form of elaborate taste. The tips of the octopuses were completely overdone and tasted like flour and a bit bitter. What a waste of the animal, I felt a bit sad after eating the dish.
The plain olives as starters are way to salty and taste generally like low quality olives. But for just 2.50€ that's ok I guess? The starter bread + olive oil for also 2,50€ is kinda weird. Four tiny pices of unspectacular bread paired with a huge amount of great tasting olive oil. Maybe more bread or less oil?
Overall a mixed experience. On my table 2 other people really liked their dishes another also didn't like their dish. (vegetarian risotto, undercooked and too oily)
It seems like its a bit of a gamble or up to your taste. The restaurant has a lot of things going for it, so I might give it another try in the future and update my rating.
But for sure I will swing by for a couple of those...
