Papaya — Restaurant in Vienna

The good reviews here might be for their Sushi as we saw many ordering only that . Coming to Thai food , the raw papaya salad som tam was a disaster . Too Wet and soggy dipped in watery sauce and not how it was supposed to be. It was too sweet. The mango avocado salad was the only saving grace but eat it at your own risk in Summers. The vegetarian spring roll was ok. But what was most disappointing was the main course. Bad quality stale mushrooms were used in fried rice , the moong sprouts too were not the good quality . Overall the stale mushrooms spoilt the taste of fried rice which was already too soaked with oil. Calpis soda which was ordered came in a stinking glass (may be from the dishwasher ) , I wish the staff checks into such things . Even with straw the stench was too strong while drinking from the glass. The staff is very kind and friendly but whole experience of dinner gave us funny tummies and left a bad taste in mouth. This restaurant really surprised me when I ate there. The food was really really good, and no matter what kind of it. The Mango Avocado salad was perfect as a starter with a few maki sushi on the side (so tasty as well). Then we ate one dish of rice with curry which was amazing. The spiciness was excellent and the yellow curry sauce was of the top level no doubt! Then we got a Pad Thai that felt like it was made in Thailand itself. I wish it was a bit more spicy but I would absolutely eat it again. We also got a very good red wine and overall the atmosphere in the restaurant was really nice and peaceful. The BEST experience we had in Vienna. We arrived 40 minutes before close and told that we had to order to go. We were looking to get out of the house so we were disappointed and spent some time deliberating outside. We finally decided the food looked so good that we’d get it to go. The woman who worked there was very patient with us, as we don’t speak German and had difficulty communicating. We ordered 3 sushi rolls, gyoza, and duck with mango. She gave us a free glass of wine while we waited and, when the food was nearly ready, insisted we eat there! The food was AMAZING. Every dish was perfect and very fresh.
