We live in Vienna and visited many restaurants. This one is in the top 5% while being reasonably priced, based on two visits recently, a few weeks apart.
We noticed this: The waiters respect your privacy while being thoughtful about your needs. They address you in the language you use (my german is reasonable, certainly not perfect) without switching to English, a habit seen in many restaurants i really dislike. Used fluent French at the table right to us, and fluent English in the table behind us. Impressive! The red wine is opened at the table (as it should be) and has the correct temperature (~16C). In many restaurants, even the more expensive ones, this is totally forgotten. We were served from the correct side, ladies first.
The main dish (goose) was really soft, tasteful and juicy. Also, quite important, they understand how to use the salt. Many other restaurants make the food too salty. It is a matter of taste of course, but salt can always be added, never removed. And, the desserts were creative and nice as well.
Last point. Many restaurants are very loud, especially when they are full. This one could do a little better (add some soft materials to the walls!), but is still good compared to most others. We could have a conversation without the need of raising our voices.
In summary, i can only speak positive of...
Read moreIn Vienna for a few days and our daughter wanted to treat us to a meal for our anniversary. On arrival at the restaurant, we were redirected to an outdoor dining area behind the restaurant, which was full of diners. A member of staff confirmed our reservation and we told him that we would prefer to dine indoors (there were some people smoking, as well as wasps flying around and the odd ant or two crawling over the tables He appeared to not understand our request and led us to a table. We weren’t happy with eating our meal outside so went back to the main restaurant and requested a table inside. We were the first indoor diners and the food was absolutely delicious. However, as soon as we had finished our main course, a staff member came to our table with card machine in hand. He seemed in a rush to get us out of the restaurant and was taken aback when my husband asked for the desert menu. By this time, however, we had made up our minds to forego dessert. We asked for the bill, paid and then left. This was an unfortunate end to what had been a great evening up...
Read moreLo and behold! Search no more for a splendid Wiener Schnitzel in Vienna, this is the place where all your dreams can become reality. The Silberwirt's W. Schnitzel comes with masterly dried parsley for you to add to your Schnitzel (recomm.: spread it evenly) and half a citrus for the juice, if you wish. But, honestly, the Silberwirt's W. Schnitzel doesn't need any garnish whatsoever. The veal is expertly prepared, melting on the tongue while the breadcrumb coating offers a unique crunchiness rarely experienced. Before my first visit to the Silberwirt, I was convinced (and a little disappointed) that the best W. Schnitzel worldwide would be offered at the German, Berlin-based, Borchardt (and still, their W. Schnitzel is excellent). But I am happy to testify that the Silberwirt's W. Schnitzel could have been the revelatory experience that might have enticed other chefs to try and replicate this universally known marvel, the Wiener Schnitzel. Do not miss out on the Silberwirt! And I did not even start to cherish the beautiful courtyard where you can sit to...
