I was recommended this place from the staff at my hotel when I asked for a spot for having true Wiener Schnitzel. Boy, it lived up to the promise. The schnitzel was from veal meat, very thin with proper breading that was super crispy. At the side it came with a potato salad. It was served with cranberry jam too, but please note that this is a supplement that is charged separately. The food came about five to ten after ordering. I wonder how they manage to get it out that fast. I think it's impossible to fry a schnitzel that fast... Nevertheless, it didn't impact the quality of the food.
As I travelled solo, I walked into the restaurant without having a reservation. That was at about 18:30. Even though there weren't many guests yet, the hostess had to double check if she could allocate me. I got a table for an hour. So a tip: make sure to reserve if you really want to eat here. I was seated in the dining room, but the restaurant has a garden too. Must be nice.
As I indicated service was really fast, but that also could have been because I just had the table for an hour. Staff is aware and clears the table once finished eating. Staff has a friendly attitude.
Price level is super good, with the Wiener Schnitzel being €20,50. That's cheap compared to other spots in the city center. Would definitely recommend and...
Read moreThis is our first experience in an Austrian traditional food restaurant Zum Alten Fassl was amazing. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by very genuine man (waiter) with great English language. Even we do not have any reservation they allowed us to dine and mention that the outdoor garden is reserved, so the only option is to dine inside which is comfortable and we are totally fine with.
The food we ordered was fantastic, showcasing authentic local flavors that made our experience even more special. Each dish was a delightful representation of Austrian taste and culinary heritage, and we are very happy with our choice of food.
What truly stood out, however, was the outstanding service provided by the staff. They were attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely friendly, enhancing our overall dining experience.
Me and my family is very international family, as we are mixed of Maldivian, Chinese and Latvian, and this trip me and my wife travel to Vienna to visit our daughter. We chose this lovely restaurant because it was suggested by our daughter. The best part of our experience was the staff speak fluent English, and it was easy, even we have German speaking with in us.
If you're looking for traditional Austrian cuisine I highly recommend Zum Alten Fassl. and i will comeback to explore more options when I...
Read moreThe food here is delicious!
As a starter, we had the beef tartare and it was amazing - highly recommended!
For the mains, we had the veal schnitzel and the deer ragout - the deer ragout was very good but the veal schnitzel was certainly the winner - amazing schnitzel.
We found this place on trip advisor trying to hunt down a fair priced restaurant serving quality local cuisine (that's also open on a Sunday, as many places in Vienna close on Sundays). It most certainly ticked those boxes and the whole atmosphere was warm cosy and friendly.
The service started off excellent. Sadly after our main course it appears that our server perhaps had finished her shift for the night and we were forgotten about. We had to go find someone to ask for more drinks and then the bill. When we went to pay by card the manager asked if we wanted to leave a tip. We declined as we were planning to tip in cash and her reaction was not a pleasant one, to say the least. Perhaps the service was down to it being a Sunday and staffing issues. Although the managers attitude was not pleasant. We would still recommend this place for the food, and the overall atmosphere was also very nice. Perhaps we just caught them on...
