After years of staying away from Vapiano – which used to be one of our favorite places – we decided to give it another try. Unfortunately, we had to realize that not only has the quality not improved, it has actually gotten worse.
Self-service instead of hospitality From the moment you walk in and are greeted by self-order terminals, the vibe is more reminiscent of a faceless fast-food chain than a modern casual dining restaurant. While this may be considered “on trend,” it certainly doesn’t feel inviting – more like a step backwards in terms of guest experience.
Service? Nowhere to be found. What truly shocked us was the complete absence of any real service. Almost every table was covered with dirty trays, leftover food, and empty dishes. No staff member seemed to be taking care of the cleanup. Guests were left to find their own spots, clear the tables themselves, and wipe them down – not what you expect when paying these kinds of prices.
The food – bland, careless, disappointing We ordered Spaghetti Carbonara and a pizza – and sadly, both dishes were a complete failure. The so-called Carbonara had no flavor or texture: watery bits of ham or bacon (definitely not sautéed), a greasy, uninspired sauce – the dish felt more like a poor version of leftover pasta, though even that might be too kind. The pizza was just as disappointing: bland in taste, uninspired toppings, and a forgettable dough. As someone who feels half-Italian at heart, it was painful to see how far removed these dishes are from real Italian cuisine.
Price-performance ratio: outrageous You might be willing to overlook a few shortcomings – if the prices weren’t so high. But for subpar food, drinks from a self-serve fridge, and a service model that barely deserves the name, the pricing feels borderline insulting.
Conclusion: Our return to Vapiano was a mistake we won’t repeat. The disappointment was major – both in terms of food and overall experience. If you’re looking for honest, authentic Italian food at fair prices, nearly any nearby pizzeria will...
Read moreBy far the worst place i have ever been to. I first entered the restaurant and was directly handed a card, i never came so i had to figure it out on my own because the waitress didnt care about anyone.
I went to the pizza part of the restaurant and there stood a guy, after taking my order he said i had to wait 30 minutes when it was all empty on that side, still said okay. It started buzzing less than 10min later, the pizza was ready, and so he lied.
I ate on the first floor, and when i demanded knifes as the basket was empty the guy at the reception told me to go downstairs, even tho i told him he had them in front of him.
And last but not least, i went to pay she was in such a horrible mood and kept talking to me in dutch even when i didnt understand, i handed my card and she still glared at me and literally got angry.
Not one smile, or good behavior at least. Such incompetent people. Its unacceptable and unbelievable that this staff works at a restaurant, dont believe the 4 stars go get kebab at the street shop its better than being...
Read moreIt seems off the reviews of other people that food and service really depends on people on the shift.
For us we've tried the lasagna and chicken alfredo pasta and both of them were great! The size of the portion also was nice and the fact that they cook it in front of you also allows you to choose/decline some add-ons (for the pasta they asked if I want cheese, chilli peppers and garlic).
At the same time, it is a little bit complicated to understand the system with the cards that they have going on. I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned it before, but you're given a card that you order on the cooking stations with. And at the end you give the card and menu back to the reception and pay. Just a little complicated when you come the first time there.
Also on the shift we came to the receptionists talked on English nicely, whilst the cooks not so much. Had some complications with them, but nothing fatal. We've figured it out.
Also beware of the time you're going to stop by there - after 5PM a lot of people start to come in...
