Daddy Brown's Conch Stand — Restaurant in City of Freeport

We went searching for lunch away from the resort that we went to for the day, off the cruise ship. A woman from a souvenir store told us to go to this place. After walking around for a bit we finally found it.

The prices were pretty good. But they need to offer something like fries or a salad with the fried fish and shrimp. I asked what type of fish it was I asked if it was grouper. He said grouper & snapper. I ordered the fried fish & shrimp and it came with conch fritters $15. I know conch is a big deal in the Bahamas but i'm not into it so for me those went to waste.

We were so thirsty and asked for water and the water wasn't cold enough. The food took quite a while but that's because they make it to order. I was a little disappointed with the fish it was this huge piece of meaty fish and it still had the skin on. I didn't care for that. The shrimp were good but everything was just too oily.

Daddy Brown was making conch salad when we placed our order. I asked who do we pay because I figured since he was squeezing limes someone else would take our cash. But nope, he proceeded to take our cash & give us the change. I found that to be unsanitary. That kind of...

So I’ll preface this by saying that any one customers experience may not be reflective of everyone’s experiences. So take any review with a grain of salt.

Approach: it’s a small shack, maybe 6 x6? Daddy Brown welcomes and he engages you with conversation to make you feel welcome. Placed our order.

Was a bit put off by the hundreds of flies surrounding the place. Saw the person inside shooing them off surfaces and maybe food as well.

The fritters were lightly battered and crispy. But had to spit out a few hard things. Not sure what they were. A a glance they looked like shell fragments. Haven’t had conch fritters before so cannot comment on if this is normal.

I know it’s virtually a required experience to visit this spot but would buy choose to go back again.

Oh my, baby, listen....if you're ever in the 🇧🇸 Bahamas and you want some excellent Caribbean food with a great price and AWESOME service, go to the Fair Play in this market and enjoy it all. The oxtails, deep fried lobster, baked chicken, conch fritters, shrimp conch fritters, fried chicken wings, peas and rice, cabbage, carrots, pasta salad, Lord, Jesus!!!!!🙏🏽🤤😋 Wonderful is what you are for allowing those to come together and have a cook and servers like this at Fair Play.
