I hate to be a Karen but…. This started weeks ago when our soup appetizers tasted like pure salt but I continue to return as options on the island are limited. Tonight, our evening began with us sitting at the bar and at the time the restaurant appeared to be under control, but boy was I wrong. I had mentioned how i always wanted to try the lunch trio which today happen to be Parmesan soup, goat cheese and orange salad and mini buffalo conch burger. All ingredients which are on the main menu as well that is served all day. The bartender tells me that i can still order it despite the time limitation on the menu, I get so excited. All of a sudden a lot of drink orders come in and about 20 minutes passes before the bartender pays any attention to us in which i ask if we can get our order in before she gets super busy. In which she points at her colleague, Don, and says he’s inputting our order. He takes my friends order, no problem. When i state that i would like the lunch trio he says no because of the time limitation. I state i understand it has a time but the bartender said i could still get it.( Keep in mind all lunch trio ingredients are available on the menu. Parmesan soup, salad and goat cheese and conch burger.) He's adamant about his NO so i politely asked the bartender if she wouldn’t mind asking the kitchen like I’ll even pay more. I cared more about the smaller portion sizing. She tells me yes because it was her fault that she told me incorrectly. This then turns into her asking Don and he had a loud freak out moment in which he said “ seriously with how busy we are right now!!” I feel bad for the bartender so i say it’s fine. When in reality it wasn’t fine, 30 minutes had to pass for me to find out a yes was really a no and his tone was passive aggressive and what difference would it had made if they were busy or not if i ordered a soup, salad and burger all separate, they would deny my order? Anyway, i then browse the menu again and settle for chicken curry. In my mind I’m like you can’t mess up curry, it’s a safe bet. I wish i could show you the rice that was served but it was a wet risotto mushy mess. I sent it back to the kitchen in hopes of simple bowl of correctly cooked rice. Don, then approaches me and states there is no more rice. I say ok, give me mine back then please I’d like to take a picture and try to make do. He states they already threw it out…. Which i didn’t really believe or i would have a picture to show. Moving on, for a place i once loved and had good things to say about. My last three dine in experiences have been awful and ask for another manager or the owner if something is wrong, Don will not resolve any conflict to the customers liking. His solution to the soggy rice was to sub with mash potatoes or fries, in which I wanted neither so he took off $5 off my check. In my opinion the entire plate should of been comped off my check as my rice was never replaced and the curry was so so. Hit or miss experience dining in here, not consistent lately. Safer bet...
Read moreMy wife and I came here on a whim while visiting the Bahamas. This was the best choice we made! We stayed and enjoyed the staff, drinks, food and deserts. We enjoyed it so much that we returned the next evening to try more food. The first visit I got the fish n chips. I am honestly hard to please when it comes to this dish because it’s usually so dry and lacks flavor but I had a good feeling after meeting the manager and talking about the restaurant and his history. At the end of the day it was delicious and moist. I’ve never had such a lightly breaded, flavorful fish.
The next evening we tried the escargot and conch bites to start. I was afraid to try the escargot but my fear was quickly overcome by how tender and delicious it was. We shared the primavera pasta with lobster and a white wine sauce. It was amazing. We ended the evening with the guava duff bread pudding. What a flavor! It was the perfect last meal for our trip. It’s going to be hard to find food this good with an atmosphere that rivals sitting on a dock with the sun setting and sail boats drifting by.
If your on the Grand Bahama island, you need to do yourselves a favor and stop by the Flying Fish.
I hope I’ll make it...
Read moreWe recently took the opportunity to dine at the Flying Fish restaurant. After hearing and reading so many rave reviews we were expecting very high standards and unsurprisingly we were not left disappointed. We received a nice welcome from the Maître D who showed us to our table where the rest of our party were waiting. As the weather was nice we had a table outside and the waiter gave us the option of both menus the bar menu and dinner menu. We actually were able to mix and match so had decided on the guacamole and tortilla chips which was delightful, followed by, from the dinner menu, the seared Mahi Mahi, it was succulent and flavoursome, and it was accompanied by a lovely coconut rice. My wife had opted for the duck for her main and again the meat was so tender it could have melted in the mouth. The waiter kept a keen eye on our drinks and was on hand to offer more if we were getting low. We were offered dessert following dinner but we had had our fill. The prices are a little higher than average but you absolutely get value for money for the quality of the dishes and a great ambiance too, just on the waters edge. Great setting, great staff, even better food. We look forward to...
