Café Lilou — Restaurant in Bahrain Island

We have been going to the Seef Cafe Lilou for the last three years now. But tonight was the first time that we were not offered a table, which was very disappointing.

As we entered, the receptionist informed us that there is a 45 minutes wait, which we said we're fine with and gave her my mobile number to call. We know from previous experience that even though they say 45 minutes, they usually call us within 20 minutes. We usually spend the waiting time by walking around A'ali mall which is adjacent to Cafe Lilou. But tonight even after 45 minutes we did not get a call.

So we went and enquired with the receptionist and she said that there are two people in front of us and to wait further. While we waited, a couple just came in and requested for a table, and the staff accommodated them without making them wait. This was very disheartening, unfair and sad to see.

But we waited another 20 minutes, and the Cafe Lilou staff still did not call us. We were very upset with this experience. If the management/owner has now decided to serve only local customers and will not serve expat customers, then the staff could have told us this. We would not have waited for more than an hour if they were not interested in serving us.

We decided to go to Fatto which is another restaurant that we have been visiting for years and is right across the road. The Fatto staff was also handling a lot of customers, but despite this they made us feel very welcome and we had a nice dinner there. Unfortunately I cannot say the same about Cafe Lilou Seef.

This is the first time I've had an experience like this in Bahrain, as usually all restaurants in Bahrain are very welcoming regardless of who you are. I don't think the owner/management will bother responding to this review, but if they do, you can check my name in your system and you will see that I did indeed make a booking at Cafe Lilou but your staff never bothered to call and did not offer me and my family a table despite us waiting for more than an hour. Even the restrooms and hallways continue the same theme; stylish, clean, and thoughtfully decorated, reinforcing the sense that Lilo Café values every part of the guest experience.
