I checked in late to Be Manos, a cozy boutique hotel near Brussels Midi. I was real hungry. The hotel clerk recommended the BarBQ restaurant next door. I walked in and went to the bar and asked the bartender for a menu and any recommendations. I sensed there must have been something wrong. She was very apprehensive and looked at me like I just landed from Mars. Being tired and hungry, I was a little upset at her reception for whatever reason it was. After ordering a beer and boulette, I couldn't finish my meal. I felt there was a big misunderstanding somewhere. A co-worker of hers spoke to me in Spanish and tried to make the atmosphere jovial and comfortable. At first, it felt nice and warm, but, towards the end the conversation felt like an interrogation. He was very skittish and went outside to make a call on his cell. I had enough of this weird experience so I asked for the bill after a couple of bites. I left a tip of one euro on top of my tab. Their farewell greeting seemed genuine and they seemed a bit relieved. The next morning, I woke up to the news that there was a manhunt underway the day before from a botched raid and that two men were being sought for being connected to it. I want to believe that my experience at this restaurant was due to this tumultuous time period. Just yesterday, the terrorist bombing occurred. Brussels and its citizens are in my prayers. Let's stand in solidarity to live as people living our lives according to our destinies and not let these terrorists scare us into living in fear. I apologize to this restaurant, the bartender, and the nice man that spoke to me. I now understand your apprehension. However, it puzzles me because I don't fit the profile of these monsters. I have Asian-American features. Also, my English is totally American. Well, I hope I can return someday to eat here. I hope the experience will be a bit more pleasant and under better political circumstances. Maybe, someone can do me a favor and ask the bartender what the deal was on that night. Previous reviews on trip advisor said she was nice. I am a bit puzzled. I don't know if there are other bartenders working there. I believe her blurred out pictures are on one of the images in google view that you can move around the restaurant. I think she is the one in ripped up jeans and a...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I discovered this wonderful restaurant just outside our hotel. The gentleman who took our order was lovely, as was the chef.
The waiter/bartender was genuinely such a lovely man, his English was superb. He wanted us to enjoy our meal and this showed. Our food was fantastic and cooked to perfection. I really recommend the spaghetti bologanise and creamy chicken, our food here was definetly some of the best food we have ever tasted.
Staff very attentive and made us feel very welcome in Brussels.
We will definetly come again. If you want good food at a fair price, genuine staff with a fantastic comprehension of English, I really...
Read moreI went here for lunch with colleagues.
It took nearly an hour for us to get our food.
5 tables that were seated AFTER us were served BEFORE us and left BEFORE we even received our food.
When I finally got the cheeseburger I ordered:
-The bun was soggy.
-The hamburger meat was over oversalted.
-The side salad was warm and the dressing runny.
We weren't offered anything, not even an apology for the poor service until we were paying the bill and leaving.
If you're thinking about eating here, don't...
