Café Het Groene Hart — Restaurant in Antwerp

We were approached by a waiter who informed us about a promotion offering three cocktails for 25 euros. Although we initially ordered only two cocktails and had not yet decided on the promotion, the waiter repeatedly asked us about our decision. Despite our consistent rejection of the promotion, the waiter persisted in bringing it up.

After some time, a senior staff member approached us and engaged my girlfriend in a discussion about the promotion. Unfortunately, the conversation became quite loud, making it difficult for me to fully comprehend what was being said. Approximately five minutes later, the waiter returned and resumed lobbying for the promotion. It became evident to me that the staff was under pressure from their boss to sell as many promotional cocktails as possible. However, we once again declined the offer.

Regrettably, the waiter appeared quite unhappy and concerned about potential repercussions from their boss. Two minutes later, the senior staff member returned and insisted that we pay 25 euros, claiming that we had accepted the promotion. I attempted to explain that this was not the case, but he started accusing my girlfriend of dishonesty and displaying unnecessary arrogance. He even questioned why she was smiling, seemingly without reason. In an attempt to resolve the situation, I requested to speak with the boss, only to be told that he was, in fact, the owner of the establishment for the past three years.

Given the circumstances, I find the quality of service we received to be completely unacceptable. It is disheartening to encounter such confrontational behavior and false...

Een jaar geleden heerlijk sate gegeten. Nu met familie uit buitenland speciaal voor sate gekomen. Kregen ons sate super donker gebakken. Sate was verbrand en niet te eten. Eerste ober geroepen en laten zien. Hij kwam na 5 minuten terug om zijn excuses aan te bieden, maar de kok geeft aan dat de sate zo bij hun verkocht wordt. Aangegeven om de kok dan te laten zien dat het bij alle zes borden de sate niet te eten is. Zijn collega is 5 minuten later bij ons gekomen en werderom laten zien dat ons sate echt verbrand is. Ook na 5 minuten komt ze vertellen dat de kok aangeeft dat zij precies zo hun sate verkopen en dat we wel moeten betalen ondanks dat het niet te eten is. Mijn dochter vroeg 3 x of we dan iets van wings kunnen krijgen omdat we echt honger hebben. Werd in eerste instantie genegeerd. En na de zoveelste verzoek of de kok erbij wilde komen om te kijken dat wij echt geen grap maken. Nadat mijn man helemaal uit zijn plaat ging is de kok erbij gekomen. Hij bleef ondanks dat we hem lieten zien dat het sate verbrand was constant zeggen dat sate altijd bij hun zo eruit zag. Dat klopt niet want wij hadden een jaar geleden daar ook sate gegeten en die waren niet gecremeerd. Wat de situatie erger maakte was dat men bleef herhalen dat zij er niets aan konden doen dat de sate verbrand was, maar wij moesten wel de rekening betalen. En de kok kondigde dat hij de politie erbij zou halen, wat wij prima vonden. Uiteindelijk is er een derde ober erbij gekomen en die heeft aangegeven dat hij de eigenaar van de zaak gaat bellen en dan met oplossing zal komen. Uiteindelijk hebben we zoals mijn dochter paar keer vroeg wings gekregen, maar ons eetlust was wel verknald. Wij hadden heel erg naar het gezellige Café Het Groene Hart van een jaartje geleden willen zijn en dat was dus een desillusie. Located in the very heart of the city. Great view from the terrace to the gorgeous Antwerpen Cathedral of our Lady. Quite pricey, but comparing to other cafes in the city center - prices are average. Ordered Flemish stew and it was absolutely delicious, worth the price! They specialise on cocktails, but I recommend to try local light or amber beer on tap. Toilet is on the second floor of a very old building, so you have to use a really steep stairs. Could be a problem for clumsy people like me lol Overall felt in love with this place and would like to return next time I visit...
