Cafe Den Engel — Restaurant in Antwerp

Lucky enough we discovered this gem around a year ago, on our first ever visit to Antwerp. Since then we have returned to Antwerp many times, and we always ensure we come to Den Engel each time. Lola and Benjamin and the entire team are so friendly, so hard working and so welcoming. We love the décor in the bar, we love sitting outside in the warmer months, and inside during the colder months. There's a superb DJ who plays a whole mix of music through the decades on the weekends, and a very friendly and efficient toilet attendant during the busier weekends. The location can't be beaten, the team working here are superb, and one of the reasons we have returned to Antwerp so many times over the past year is because of the super friendly welcome Lola and Benjamin give us, as well as being so genuinely nice and hard working team members. We shall keep returning here from London time after time, for as long as they are both working here - they truly make our trips to Antwerp so memorable and something we very much look forward to. We have bought flowers for Lola to show our appreciation, she truly is amazing and is worthy of some flowers, it's the least we can give her. Should I be lucky enough to ever have my own bar, I would want her and Benjamin to be the managers - their personalities and warmth and welcome is priceless,...

First time to this local Cafe in Grote Market in Central Antwerpen. The weather was not great I had great company already but this Cafe added to that. My friend had been here before and liked it so it was recommended. We went in and it was was like a fusion of going back in time to how people used to celebrate a Saturday night. Nothing new just good old fashion fun all ages from young to old . It was almost like I’d gatecrashed someone’s party they were having in their living room. Everyone knew every song the Dj put on track after people lip synched and did Rock and roll and jive dancing it was really quite to everything else entertainment wise on offer. Think everyone needs to come and check this magical place out- everyone I spoke to was friendly The Dj and a special mention to the older lady controlling the toilets she had a table full of like sweets like a sweet shop. We were so lucky to find this amazing establishment on our first visit to Antwerp earlier in the summer. My partner & I are now back for our second, longer stay, and had no hesitation in returning to Den Engel. Yes, the location is amazing, however for us it was more the team members who ensured we return. There is the most lovely lady with blond hair who works there on Wed / Thurs / Fri and at the weekends too, she is super hard working and so friendly. She is accompanied by a super fit young man who looks after the tables, and he is so friendly, so hard working, and helps create a great experience. Both of these team members remembered our drink of choice from earlier in summer (Gin), although I've since swapped to Stella and my partner to Rose Wine. Anyway, a superb friendly, well located pub, great outdoor area, great prices, lovely staff, great DJ at weekends.
