Wasbar — Restaurant in Antwerp

Wasbar isn’t what is used to be. I frequent this place with my friends a lot because the food is something everyone likes, and there’s enough variety on the menu for everyone to find something they like.

My last 3 visits were not good though, hence this review.

Visited at 16:30 because I wanted a coffee and something sweet and my friend wanted a bagel. We sat outside, there were about 10 tables with people sat at them and the rest of the restaurant was empty. After 25 minutes my friend went in side because no one would come to the table. She found most of the staff just talking with eachother or on their phones and places the order at the counter. The food was good though.

Visited at 17:45, before the staff said hello they just told us “we close at 19:00”. Restaurant was empty besides one big table where a family was seated. No one took our order again, so after 20 minutes we called the waiter over. The food was not great. Our soups were ice cold, but no waiter to be spotted to whom we could ask to warm them up. The plate of the bagels looked really sloppy, and in the end we had a random extra drink that we didn’t order or receive added to our bill.

My last visit this week was disappointing yet again. I really didn’t want to go after my last two experiences, but my friend was doing laundry here. We sat inside because of the colder weather, about 7 tables were occupied. Guess what? After 20 minutes, no one had come to take our order. Three employees were just chilling and talking in the open kitchen space, one guy was even on his phone the whole time. Waitress finally comes over to take our order after I glared at them one too many times. She was rude an uninterested. The food was great this time at least. We wanted to order a coffee after our meal, again no staff responding to us putting our hands up so we just left.

This place needs more competent staff asap. Their food and concept is good, but their hiring manager should reconsider what...

Interesting concept of a cafe and laundry service in once. Don't worry, you can also eat without doing laundry, or do laundry without ordering food, but why not enjoy your time there with a coffee or a meal while waiting for your laundry to be done? They use Ecover detergent!

The food was very nice (really great falafel) and they have a fair share of vegetarian and vegan options. Do pay attention though, because I got a non-vegan cookie with my oat milk hot chocolate (despite specifically asking if the hot chocolate was vegan), and the truffle mayonnaise that they serve with their bagel burgers is NOT vegan, but somehow still the standard sauce, even with their "viva las vegan" bagel that is labelled vegan on their menu. The waitress was very observant, realised it and changed it for ketchup. Small things that are not embedded in their catering for vegans. No worries, but maybe some minor points of improvement.

The staff was very friendly and was engaged with the customers, despite being slightly understaffed. Do take into account that waiting times for drinks are not long at all, but can be a bit longer than expected for food (probably as a result of understaffing), so plan your visit only if you have the time to sit for an hour and...

First time here and probably the last… Ordered some drinks and food for brunch. To order, you have to scan a QR code on your table and then select everything from the menu online. Good thing about that system is, that you can see pictures of the actual food, bad thing is that you cannot add comments to your order e.g. if you don’t want or want to add specific ingredients. The waiting time was a bit long, in our case we waited around 20 minutes for the drinks and another few minutes for the food. The taste of the food was mostly pretty good, but there is definitely potential to improve the drinks. The matcha latte was lumpy and the Spekulatius latte didn’t really hat real Spekulatius in it. Regarding the drinks and food, the portions are pretty small for that price, there were barely any toppings on the bagels.
