‘t Gezelleke is a fair-sized, one-room restaurant decorated with the visage of local priest and poet: Guido Gezelle - as the back of the menu explains. Ordering from the specials menu I ordered the seafood stew which was very good. My friend said it tasted a little fishy but I like that. It came with three slices of bread and some red-pepper spread with a hint of Dijon. It is styled and served with one large prawn on top. That is the only prawn meat in the dish, as well there was only one scallop. The rest is a medley. I expected a bit more substance , but it was a nice variety of flavours. My friend ordered the beef stew and it was amazing! The tender morsels of beef were delicious and the accompanying frites (although likely cooked from frozen) were a great accompaniment to the stew and great for dipping. I couldn’t stop myself from going back for more. The environment was cozy, the background music was the right volume and style for the restaurant and the server (owner?) was fast, friendly and efficient. All in all, a...

This was our first time/meal in Belgium. On the hunt for a great place that does mussels, we found this wonderful place and walked out quite far to reach it. Immediately, I was charmed with a cosy and quaint interior. We waited to be seated and were greeted by a friendly man that gave us the choice of where we wanted to sit. This instantly made me feel very valued and welcomed so I chose to sit right next to the bar as it was so picturesque. The other half came to join and we had a lovely conversation with the owner. We had the mussels, the flemish stew along with snails and Calamari for starters. Everything was spot on. Snails were juicy and plump, calamari soft. (Big portions!) The flemish stew was delicious and had a rich Belgium beer flavour. The mussels in garlic and saffron were of very high quality, (the best I’ve had!) Excellent wine. We will be back for sure. I will recommend you to friends and family....

Horrible. Do not go here. A éviter! We ordered our food and my friend, vegetarian, took a goat cheese salad with honey dressing and pine nuts. No meat was listed on the blackboard, but when the salad arrived there was bacon on it. My friend asked for a vegetarian one, since she could not have it; the owner was very rude and upset , saying that he was gonna charge the salad and it was no possible to have a goat cheese salad without bacon. He kept on arguing for a while until we could not bare that impoliteness anymore and we wanted to leave. At this point we were locked in the restaurant and we waited for the police to come. In a nutshell: according to the police we should have known the goat salad comes with bacon, even if not indicated!!!!! We paid for all the food we did not have and left. It was an...

Cosy, with friendly service and really really good food. The food is a mixture of Spanish tapas and traditional Belgian dishes. As a tourist to Belgium I stuck to the Belgian fare and I wasn't disappointed. The beef stew with chips and the rabbit stewed in cherry beer were just delicious and exactly the sort of thing to eat by candlelight on a cold November evening. The rabbit came with its own little dish of warm cherry beer with cherries floating in it. No idea how you are supposed to eat that, but I recommend soaking bits of rabbit in it! It was very quiet at 7pm on a Thursday but when we went back on Saturday (first day of the Christmas markets) it was heaving, so get there early at peak tourist times! There was also a rousing band playing that night - don't know if it's a regular thing but they were awesome.

This is a lovely restaurant just outside the hustle and bustle of the touristy areas. If you want quality food in an absolutely charming atmosphere, than look no further. We loved it so much we went two days in a row out of our 3 day trip. The quality of the food is exquisite. The onion soup was more rich and flavorful than the French version. The Rabbit stew and Flemish Stew were outstanding. The seafood stew was perfectly balanced and full of seafood while the beef bourguignon was huge and bursting with flavor. The table bread you can order is so good I wanted to take home a loaf. The service is fantastic, with such care taken for everyone. This is a great example of local flavors made with love.
