This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in, room was filthy with dirty bed sheets and I was itchy sleeping due to bed bugs. We picked this hotel as it had seemingly good reviews on booking.com and the pictures of the room overlooking the canal looked nice which we had specifically selected the canal view room when booking. It was therefore very disappointing when we arrived and were told we were ‘on level -1’. We soon found out that meant a basement room at canal level meaning we were level with water (not what was advertised). That I could possibly accept but the room itself was also opposite the breakfast room (like 6 feet away with only a door to separate us so zero privacy). It was incredibly noisy from 6am and we got hardly any sleep during our stay. I would call the room more of a storage cupboard than a four star hotel room. It was also incredibly dirty with stains on the bed sheets and I got bites from bed bugs in the bed. Having stayed in hostels in Asia and South America this is the first time I’ve ever had bites from bed bugs and this is meant to be a 4 star hotel! If you want the bed sheets to be cleaned you have to pay 15 euros for the pleasure of clean sheets! The bed is very uncomfortable and the pillows are basically cushions which made it harder to get any sleep on top of the noise from the breakfast room. The rudeness of the staff also made our experience awful. When we asked on arrival whether we could be moved to another room, the brown haired lady on reception said she would look into whether she could to move us to another room. However, this was not possible as she said it was fully booked for the duration of our stay. We had originally requested a canal view room on a high floor and this was something the hotel could not deliver. Clearly a case of false advertising as I would not book to stay in a basement separate from the rest of the hotel. When I complained on the second day that we were not happy with our room and hardly got any sleep, the brunette receptionist said that if I informed her earlier she could have tried to move us to a different room indicating that it was my fault that I had not informed them first thing in the morning. Clearly she was trying to gaslight me as she said the rooms were are all fully booked during the duration of our stay when we checked in! When I asked if they could offer breakfast as a good will gesture she rudely said she couldn’t offer anything. We’ve stayed in far superior 4 star hotels in Bruges and even our stay in the 3 star Ibis hotel was better than this shambles of a hotel. AVOID.

A Vacation All My Own: The Enchantment of Ter Brughe It's extraordinary how a vacation, often unexpected, can turn into an indelible memory. And so it was for me when I crossed the threshold of Hotel Ter Brughe. To simply call it a hotel would be an understatement, for it is so much more: an enchantment transformed into a structure, one of those corners that gently weave their way into the hearts of those who, like me, seek authenticity. I usually steer clear of staying in cold, impersonal hotel chains. But here, every doubt dissipated. From the very first moment, I knew I had made the right choice. A delicate fragrance enveloped me, the wooden floor welcomed my steps, and the reception surprised me with a bouquet of wildflowers, a welcoming gesture that brought a smile to my heart. The arrangement of the space seems like an artistic canvas, a balanced mix of styles that evoke the grace of France and the elegance of England. Tartan armchairs, tables adorned with small bouquets and candles, books arranged with care, all in a warm and inviting atmosphere. And then there's the inner garden, a gem shielded by the hotel's walls, an oasis of charm. As I ascended the wooden stairs, I heard that sweet creaking of times gone by, a sound that blends perfectly with the ambiance of the place. And even though the stairs were not the most convenient for luggage, I forgave any inconvenience immediately because in this hotel, every detail contributes to creating an extraordinary experience. And then, the room. A true cocoon that holds a pearl within. Exposed beams, wallpaper, the classic lightweight, quilted Provencal boutis, everything harmoniously combined to create a refined and welcoming environment. The pillows, personalized with elegant embroidery, were a comforting embrace. There was even a dedicated corner to prepare a delicious hot chocolate, a detail that made my stay even more special. The true gem, of course, remains the view. Peering out of the oblique window, I could admire the rooftops of Bruges and the horizon. The morning sun caressed me, kissing my day with a touch of warmth. This hotel is a true delight, a hidden gem that made these days even more unforgettable. In conclusion, Hotel Ter Brughe is much more than just accommodation: it's a dream come true, a charming experience that gifted me with comfort and beauty in every detail. It was an enchantment that transformed an ordinary vacation into a memory that feels tailor-made for me.

We were so looking forward to spending our anniversary in Brugges. What a huge let down. We asked for our bath to be fixed as it wont hold water, never happened and we saw it was on another review so they were aware of it. The batheoom needs a revamp as its tired and dirty. Mornings we were woken at 7am by a pneumatic drill and roadworks, not the nice relaxing few days we planned. The nights were even worse..... the hotel is next to a student residence for the College of Europe who like to get drunk and run up and down the road outside the rooms shouting. We told reception on day 3 and she said its never been a problem, later we found this is a complete lie. Night 3 was the worst as they have regular parties! It sounded like a nightclub with a big soundsystem and no sound insulation. We didnt complain the night before this but time we had to and the young man on the night shift said it was an ongoing problem over a year and he would call the police again. Why put guests in these rooms when the management know their stay will be ruined and they will not be able to sleep due to the noise outside the room? Police were called, the party disputsed after an hour or so and at 3am the students finally stopped drunkenly passing the windows and we tried to sleep. We got hardly any sleep so the 3 nights away was totally ruined and we went home deflated with bad memories of our stay at the Hotel ter Brughe. The day staff were uninterested, dismissive and I have to say came across as ignorant to our experience. They refused to give the name of who to complain to. I worked for hotels for many years and we travel extensively this was the worst example of hospitality I've ever experienced. We are taking it further with a formal complaint and will never return to Bruges.

I went to Bruges to celebrate my friend's 50th and we had looked at hotels for weeks before deciding on Hotel Ter Brughe. You're really spoiled for choice in this incredible city. She made the booking directly through their website. We checked into our room and she made sure that we had separate bedding as requested since we are friends and they didn't have any twin rooms available. Lovely dinner out and slept in late due to lack of sleep the night before our travels. Then came at knock at the door by someone from the front desk informing us that housekeeping discovered we had a second room booked and this woman was trying to hand us the key. We were confused as we obviously had booked just one room as required and clearly they were mistaken. The woman from the hotel said no, my friend paid for 2 rooms and she should take the key to the other one. Again my friend explained that she had booked one room and one only. We got one key at check-in and there was never mention of this supposed second room. ||We realised then that it was April the 1st and so this must have been an April Fool's joke. The hotel woman insisted it was not and to take the key. It was getting upsetting at this stage. My friend checked her emails and found only 1 confirmation for 1 room. Then she checked her card statement and saw she had been charged twice on the same day for the same amounts. My friend had been in regular contact with the hotel in regards to the bedding and even asking for a possible upgrade for her 50th birthday, and never was there a mention of a second room. The hotel woman said she would communicate the situation with the managers and owner and get back to us. We went out for the day and upon our return in the evening, was informed that the management had come to the decision that it was the fault of the front desk to not give us the key to this supposed second room and they would refund the 1st night but she would still be charged for the remaining 2 nights. My friend was upset to say the least. ||It was suggested that she send an email explaining the situation to the management along with her communications referencing the single room and the receipt for one room. She took the time during our brief stay to send that email along with the supporting information. The management came back to say that she had booked 2 rooms on their system, paid for it, and it was her decision to not take the keys for the 2nd room but she was still responsible to pay for it. Their system showed she made a reservation for one room and minutes later made another reservation for the same room at the same price. They say she received 2 separate emails with both confirmations. They said she could have checked her portal on their site at any time to see this. ||WHAT?! She booked one room, got a confirmation for ONE room and communicated about ONE room. We were checked into ONE room upon arrival without any mention of a second room. Anyone who books TWO rooms would book them together, right? Clearly this was an issue with their booking system. A simple tech mistake. Instead of being reasonable and sorting it out, they insisted it was my friend's responsibility and were charging her for it. They didn't even clean our room after the first night with all this drama going on. It was a huge energy drain and nearly ruined our holiday and celebrations. My friend was left bullied and crying by a hotel. We felt extremely unwelcomed and have terribly unpleasant memories...

I wish this was going to be a positive review glowing with an overwhelming since of gratitude that I chose this property out of the countless options. However, that is NOT the case. ||Please be warned about this property. ||I was traveling with a friend for my big 5-0 birthday and was thrilled for my 1st experience in Bruges. I booked a king size room for 3 nights. I was in constant communication with the property about my single room, how my friend and I are only friends so was hoping to get 2 twin beds vs a king, I requested an email confirmation about my reservation as it didn't come through to my email (please not singular room not multiple). We arrive and checked in with Lisa and settled into our room. The next afternoon, there was a knock on the door from Ella who informed us that we had another room under my name and handed over the key for the 2nd room. I reassured her that I did not book 2 rooms and questioned why this was not brought up when we checked in. She said it was an error on their end so therefore they would reimburse me for that 1st night but not the 2 additional nights. I was floored by this response. It makes absolutely no sense. They didn't see this 2nd room when we checked in but then it appeared the next afternoon... and that was my fault-!?? Ella kept attempting to get us to accept the 2nd key for the 2nd room which we DID NOT. We explained we never needed a 2nd room and that was clear in my communication with the property. I then discovered there were 2 charges on my credit card so emailed the property that evening as I was instructed to do so the owners could look into the matter.||The owners were beyond rude, unprofessional and inappropriate with their response. Telling me how there's 2 rooms under my name and the case was no longer open for conversation. I went to the front desk immediately upon reading the email and expressed my concern about the tone in the email and how nauseated I was with how my situation was being handled. I spoke with Jill, Ella and Lisa. The way I was treated was unacceptable. Lisa was extremely rude and abrasive. I felt like I was being harassed in-person and via email. I went back to my room in tears as I was beyond shocked and frustrated. I immediately contacted my bank who reassured me they would handle the situation as they understood the utter disrespect and lack of common decency that I was faced with at this property. They advised that I no longer interact with them since they were impossible to deal with and were making what should have been an amazing 5-0 birthday celebration into an environment where my friend and I felt unwelcomed and unsafe.||There are so many beautiful properties in Bruges. I HIGHLY advise saying far away from this...
