I went to this restaurant as a solo traveler midday Sunday, as I wanted to try traditional Belgian food but I am vegetarian. Much of what has been pointed out by other reviewers is still relevant: service is slow, and the space is a bit run down (note bathrooms are down a flight of stairs and I don't know that there is step free access). However, portions are big, and reasonably tasty. It is not an inexpensive/casual dining price point, but it is also not fine dining. The staff were very helpful explaining things to me in English. I ordered the boulets sauce Liégeoise and an iced tea.
Because I know the owners do take feedback into account, I have a few small points for overall consideration before I explain why I am only giving 3 stars, as instead this review would be 4 or 5 stars. First, the service was a little slow and staff seemed stressed out; I wonder if this could be partially solved by changing the business model, at least for lunch/brunch, to ordering at the counter and having food brought to the table. Second, the portions were very big and filling, which was lovely, but because of the cost I felt I had to eat everything even when I was already full. I would like to suggest the introduction of two sizes of boulets sauce Liégeoise: one with two boulets, maybe for €13-14, and another that is the original size.
Now the reason I am only giving 3 stars. It is great to see a restaurant that is child-friendly, and we need more of them. However, this experience was too much. During my visit there were 5 toddlers running around, yelling, knocking over merchandise, etc (often directly underfoot of staff). They were poorly behaved, but they are children: some of this is to be expected, and I wouldn't mention it if it stopped there. However, about halfway through my meal they started shrieking and playing a game of shoving each other onto the floor directly in front of the counter. It was very loud, and even audible when I went downstairs to use the bathroom. When I left, I had to step through them. It should not be staff's responsibility, but when the parents did not successfully intervene after it reached this point, I do feel like something should have been said. I understand the challenge faced by the staff as the families are also paying customers, but this would never have been allowed in any other restaurant I have ever been to. In fact, if this had been happening when I first arrived, I would have turned around and left the restaurant.
I am sure the owners will have much to say about this if they reply. In previous reviews, they say that if there are any issues it should be raised with staff to give a chance to make things right. I hope they will please understand that this is very confrontational, and not everybody will be comfortable doing this. It also would not have helped in my situation unless I literally got up from my meal, found a busy staff member, and caused a fuss that would have been embarrassing for everybody involved. I hope that perhaps in the future, discretion can be used in these situations to kindly but firmly intervene and ask parents to do something or take children outside for a break if the children are not behaving appropriately for a...
Read moreSuper chilled vegan hang out "safe space" with friendly service and most importantly: yummy vegan desserts.
The atmosphere here is relaxed and casual, including some nice couches, board games and even a small area with toys for young children.
The staff are just as casual, friendly, warm and welcoming as the space.
Highly recommended even if you aren't vegan or veggie just as relaxed places to have a quiet coffee - even on your own or with friends - is always a good thing.
I'm stuck with loving the place and the vibe and the poor service though. If you aren't just ordering a drink and a cake, expect slow service.
In the three times we've come here (once late in the evening once on a weekday afternoon and once for Sunday brunch), service has been mind-blowingly slow, and two of those three times our order ended up at the wrong table and the staff simply pulled it off their table to give it to us. Expect about a 30 minute wait for their (amazingly delicious) pancakes, even if it's very quiet. We experienced an hour and a half wait for a Sunday brunch.
Unfortunately I really want to love this place but I find it difficult if it takes so long - especially when waiting with young children - and I feel the service level will be the cause of death for the Judgy Vegan. As a local from the neighbourhood who wants to be a regular customer, I really want this to work, but I now feel the end is inevitable if things don't change.
Unless you have a lot of time on your hands, come for a drink and a cake, but it just takes too long to order anything from the kitchen, even if there are only a few...
Read moreLiterally the worst place in Brussels. We got there with my friend for dinner. We ordered our food, and started waiting. After waiting for more than an hour, the waitress (she was the only one, also she probably is running the place), came and told us another table got our food by mistake and ate it. How could they get it by mistake? She was the one who got our order and she was the one who delivered it to another table. And the place weren’t even that crowded, there were like only two tables waiting for their food at the same time. And then she brought the hummus bowl which was extremely cold, like right out of fridge. Although it was listed as a main course, it was freezing cold. It wasn’t even a cold appetizer. Then, we had to wait for another 15-20 minutes for my friend’s meal. In the meantime, we were extremely hungry. Having a drink before dinner made it only worse because we were starving. And the food we got wasn’t even worth waiting. It was beyond awful. They were kind enough o offer the frites free of charge. But that doesn’t change how bad the experience was. I wouldn’t recommend this place even if it is literally the only place available to eat. If you run a restaurant, you need to do it professionally. They are...
