L'Espérance (chez Bernard) — Restaurant in Etterbeek

As being a Belgian, I am ashamed to have brought my international friends here!

We had several drinks outside on the terras, which we had to go and order ourselves inside (but this was fine, no problems). The younger bartenders were very friendly. When it became a bit chilly for the girls, we moved inside where there was a screen with live football. After 2 minutes the owner with white hair came "to take our order". He knew that we were sitting on the terras before as I went 2 times to order at him at the bar. But yet, he said we are forced to take ALL another drink... even if 3 of us just finished the consumption before going inside. When 1 of my guests refused to order directly, he said we needed to go to leave the space for other people to sit... The bar inside was completely empty, there were more than 50 spots free!! I said we would go and stood up. In the meanwhile he took already the rest of the drink of a girl away!!! Incredible! Although I came there before, one thing is for certain... they will never see me there again. // Other things to mention.. the guy serves "standard" the 33cl to let the tourists pay more. 3 girls that came to order at the bar had it. In belgium the standard is 25cl, only if you ask a large, you should get it. And his prices are very high. On top of that it happens that he makes the count wrongly; in his advantage off course. What a rude, unrespectful attitude. If you need to earn your money this way, you'd better close your bar. I am ashamed to have brought my friends there....

Absurdly rude staff. During payment a staff member printed a total receipt, despite us asking to split the bill. When we asked to promt a new bill he started throwing his plate on the bar in anger. He told us in a highly rude/angry tone that prompting a new receipt was nog possible and paying with card was not possible either. Eventually left handing him the cash while he remained angry and screaming. Absurd behaviour to paying customers....

If you're an American, I would not recommend going to this place. While everyone else buying a beer or two can have a tab and pay when they finish, the minute this place heard me speak English the extremely rude waiter insisted I go inside and pay for my beer and any subsequent beers I buy, which will now be zero. When I asked for an explanation the waiter refused to give me a reason and the guy inside behind the bar suddenly couldn't...
