The place is fine, but I rated it so low because of their dishonesty and rudeness. I came across a voucher for a "free taster" of their daily beer and went to use it. They accepted it, I sat down and started to enjoy the beer. About half way through, one of the bar staff came to me and told me the free beer isn't actually free anymore and that they don't honour the free voucher anymore because they "lost too much money", and insisted I pay. Now, it's not much they were asking, but it felt extremely rude and ruined the whole vibe. I was planning on ordering another beer and maybe some food, but after this rude interaction, I refused to pay for my free beer and left.
The whole point of free tasters is to get people in to try the beer and hope they will buy some.... Due to their dishonesty they lost a sale and gained a bad review. Very dishonest business practice, and not very smart.

But the taste and feel is more like your neighbors home brew. We had three different types of the local Artevelde beer. The Grand Cru was ok, but the wheat beer and the hoppy beer were just sad, and the foam hardly survived from the tap to the table. Add to this that service is not very friendly or personal. For good beer and service Trollekeller is just a few hundred...
