I had a very unpleasant experience of racism in this bakery. When I entered, I asked the clerk in English if they had savory products. Her response was cold and rude: with an annoyed tone, she replied, ‘We are a bakery,’ as if I were asking an inappropriate question and should somehow ‘know’ what they sell. This behavior made me feel judged and misunderstood, as if my question were seen with prejudice just because I am not a native Flemish speaker. In every other bakery I’ve visited, I’ve always found a wide selection of both sweet and savory items, so I didn’t expect to be treated this way or to feel uncomfortable in an environment that should welcome customers with courtesy and respect, regardless of their background...

I am working temporarily in Ghent and I have no option but to go here, to my regret. The ladies are often aggressive and eager for you to pay and leave. Every sandwich tastes of stale bread, and the portion is shameful. You get a tiny, microscopic slice of cheese and maybe one of egg, and have to pay 6,50€ for it. I understand that this is a student deli, but they at least should be honest about the portion and charge more for something decent. Ah! And if you don’t speak Dutch you will get a racist stare down. Ik ga hier soms een broodje halen omdat het dichtbij is, maar de laatste tijd ben ik zeer teleurgesteld met wat ik krijg voor mijn geld. Ik bestelde eens een broodje kaas en dit was verdacht snel klaar. Het broodje was hard en droog en de kaas randen waren uitgedroogd. Echt niet smakelijk. Ook bestelde ik een broodje met geitenkaas, appel, honing en noten. Dit koste mij 6,50 en was echttt niet lekker. Er zaten veeeeel teveel noten en zaden op. Ik heb ze er af gedaan en nog was het een heel zielig broodje. De verkoopster was ook zeer onbeschoft. Ik kom hier niet meer.
