Read moreI feel Passion-ately about this place. Best meal so far in my three weeks visiting Europe.
This place isn't just some tourist trap on the main street. Yes, it is centrally-located, but it actually has a lot of locals eating there because they know it's good.
As we were sitting there, we noticed the couple next to us was ordering a waffle with an interesting bright yellow-orange syrup. As we asked the waiter what that was, they started talking to us, and we ended up just chatting, having lunch, and sipping beer for three hours. We really got to see the local way of life - enjoy every day, take it easy and slow.
The yellow-orange liquid is this local speciality called Advokaat - it's not avocado! It's similar to egg nog but boozier.
Their waffles are absolutely magnificent - if you only experienced Belgian waffles in America or some place like that, this is totally different. These waffles are so light and soft, it's like you're eating air (but still delicious). We tried the Advokaat one and the cherry compote one, both highly recommended!
We also got their Stoovlees - beef stew cooked with beer. It has super tender beef in a slightly sweet and tangy while still savory sauce -totally awesome.
We also got the shrimp croquettes, which my girlfriend really liked, but I didn't because they were too fishy-tasting for me. I think this is one of those items that's just not for everyone, and not the fault of the restaurant.
The beer we got, Kaiser Karel (apparently named after a ruthless dictator from the 16th century), was a solid...
Read moreLet me tell you a story about love and Nutella.. I had recently just rustled the jimmy's of the proverbial crevice in youthful fervor, if ya know what I mean ;). But in the midst of my fleshy philandering a challenger approached, ripe with the musk of a fine, purebred ox, like the one my cousin Trudy bequethed for her dowry to my the local cheesemonger. Sigma male that I am, I imediately rebuffed him with my grindset and scent. After my multiple conquests I needed a frothy beverage. luckily I saw a perfext lifted 2014 Ford f250 Raptor parked in the parking lot of the restauraunt, with more than enough miles to give the motor oil the tang i craved. I tossed my muse aside and bull rushed for my ale. After engulfing the black gold and tasting its sweet ambrosia i needed something to restore the caolories spent in my daily canoodling. Lucking i heard this joint had some great waffles.
I was seated by a window, the stench of love still clinging to me. Right then and there, it happened. The brown eye (my forbidden pleasure) had prolapsed. There was only one thing that could save me from what the fates had in store. One thing that could end my saucy scenario. I made a mad dash for the kitchen, thanking my faith in the Websters Dictionary, that i found myself in this fine, frankly downright homey establishment. I found exactly what i was looking for, the soothing salve of serenity. REMEMBER, when saurons eye opens, Nutella warms your insides...
