We stumbled here on the first day of the year for dinner because Otomat apparently stays open during the holidays (kudos to this). It was almost full but we found a table at the very back. The place is a long "tunnel" with a couple of window tables, a communal table, and a series of 2 and 4 tables running the length of the room. I loved the rich green and wood tones. We were sitting near the bathroom and, like every other bathroom in Belgium, it smelled.of sewage; not so much to be unsettling but we'd get a whiff. Food was nice although, if you are looking for an Italian pizza, this is not the place for you. The dough was very thin and crunchy and tasted more like crackers than pizza (I liked it!). The pizzas are also interesting, I wish I had more time here in Leuven to try more. The Rocket and him with a Twist was very good and so was my pizza bianca. The Margherita was average. In general though everything was of pretty good quality. The pizza is light and I didn't feel overly full. The creme brulee was a bit disappointing: there was barely any crust on top (the center was burnt in the sense that it tasted of charcoal) and the creame was too runny; it tasted good though. Service was pretty fast considering the crowd and we probably waited 10-15 minutes only. Our server was very nice and professional. TIPS: 1. if you don't speak Dutch, there's a QR code at the right bottom corner of the menu for other languages (we totally missed it). 2. You'll pay at a tablet station closer to the entrance. Like I said, this is not Italian pizza and I don't even think they are trying to be which is fine because their pizzas are very good...
Read moreReally nice atmosphere, with lot of young people around and serving, that makes the place a fresh and positive environment. The pizza are the slim type and I found them light on the digestion. The topping are of good quality and you can modify a bit your pizza directly from a choice in the menu for a variable extra to pay plus. On the con site I would say the place is not so much spacious and the low ceiling don't help with the noise, so if you search a quiet place this is not for you. In still was able to keep a normal conversation without having to raise my voice so it's ok. Each pizza comes with a beer suggestion that I found appropriate, but in any case you have a good choice on the menu. Thev service was also fast enough considering the place was packed in the middle of the week. They serve a good coffee too, so what could...
Read moreI tried this less than a month ago on a Sunday and wanted to try something new. Nice place and having a unique twist to pizzas. Such as vol au vent on a pizza is not something that sounds obvious but strangely enough it works very well. And definitely worth recommending to try it out. I also tried the “ you’ve got the l’oeuf” but this although not bad felt more flat than the vol-au-vent on the pizza. The pizza dough also used in both cases is a very nice thin layer and not the typical feeling of “ pfff this crust is not worth eating”. Although would be interested in a dessert and a cup of coffee the service just did not seem to pay much attention to us even though we asked for the dessert card and just stood up and...
