Resto Café Agora — Restaurant in Leuven

The food quality and presentation was good but not superb. The atmosphere was like any restaurant in Leuven. Certainly I would go back if I could, but rather not. The customer service was a shameful experience. Being accused of being at fault for the following incident is what you can expect of an arrogant manager. First the meat was not cooked at requested, so my companion had to ask to send it back to the kitchen. We told them before ordering the meal that she is highly allergic for a specific ingredient. They understood and would take care of it. However when the steak came back, and she took the first bite, she almost had to be brought to the hospital. While she was clearly suffering and i requested water to be brought urgently, they did not provide the water timely neither did they apologize. Instead while she felt dying, they said it must have been her fault as she just have stressed the allergy issue multiple times. They are so lucky I did not sue them, we survived the ordeal, never...

The interior inside Agora is very chic and classy. I often comes here when the weather is good so I can see great view of Big Market (Grote Markt) of Leuven. The waiters are friendly especially this black guy who serves better than the rest and has a big smile all the time. I ordered Fried Shrimps which were served with fresh lettuce, topped with a vinaigrette of rosemary and cacktail sauce (5 pieces of shrimps). They were very good and I also ordered dame blanche/white lady (vanilla ice cream and topped with chocolate sauce). The price were reasonable for what you get (service, atmosphere and the quality of food). So I will definitely recommend here for sure, especially during summer because there are a lot events going on in this town.

The place is small and it was packed completely. Tables were small and dishes were rather big so it wasn’t ideal. The food was good, tasty. Nonetheless, it took quite some time to get everything we ordered. I didn’t order sauce, they gave me sauce, one of my friends ordered croquettes, got fries… Service was friendly and spoke English which was appreciated. Toilet was upstairs. There was a weird smell coming from the kitchen, and we were talking about it, one of the waitresses confirm it was ammonia but didn’t explain anything else which was confusing.
