I recently visited La Buvette and opted for the vegetarian alternative to the fixed menu, as I don’t eat certain dishes from the regular menu such as octopus and lamb. I was very surprised when the amuse-bouche arrived: instead of the octopus, I received only the small garnish leaf that accompanies it. Just a few chopped greens in a tiny bowl. When I asked the waitress if something was missing, she replied that they did not have an alternative to the octopus for the vegetarian option, even though they advertise a vegetarian version of their menu. It was disappointing to be charged for a full tasting menu without any real replacement for one of the courses. I chose not to stay to witness the rest of the dishes, as this first course already made the experience feel careless and unthoughtful.

Great night with fantastic food and attentive service. Andrea was our main server, and was happy to engage with us beyond providing an explanation of each course. She was charming, polite, knowledgeable and fun. Due to a miscommunication over the booking time (it was pushed back but the message was delivered to another phone so was missed), the manager offered us a complimentary drink which was more than was needed: they had tried to reach us and it was our error. He insisted and the gesture was very much appreciated. For information, the negronis are incredible. Just as a reminder, the food was amazing. Well worth a detour and will eat there again when next in Brussels.

Informal fine dining in a casual period setting. Tasting menus is all the rage in BXL and la Buvette does a better price/value offer than many. La Buvette is not stuffy and neither is the fresh, imaginative food with a set 5-7 course tasting menu that changes a dish or two monthly to keep it interesting. The restaurant seats about 30 covers with the bulk of the seating located in two rooms on the 1st floor. We were in a group and had the entire room to ourselves which made it special. Note that the stair is narrow and a bit steep and toilets are only accessible via the stairs.

2 stars from us (party of 2).

Disclaimer: we are grading this for what it is, which means a rather expensive gastronomic restaurant.

The food was fine, but nothing really blew us away. I don't eat fish so I received some vegetarian options as replacement for 3 out of 4 dishes as it is something that the restaurant offers (kudos to them for this!). Unfortunately the replacements felt like an afterthought, one was two slices of barely grilled halloumi straight from the supermarket and the other one was a barely crunchy panisse with a rather bland sauce. The idea was okay this time around but my partner received something much more "colorful" wich my dish did not match. The vegetarian option was not cheaper than the full option, in spite of 3/4 dishes being rather cheap replacements.

Speaking of the crunchiness, most dishes were almost cold including the meat, and we heard the table next to us complain about the same thing so it seems to be something to take into account.

The dessert was really good, which is usually not the case in this type of restaurant, so good job.

The service was friendly, but everything took FOREVER. From the moment they took away our plates for the final main course to us walking out the door it took 1h and 15 minutes. Mind you they only remaining things were the dessert (45 minutes wait for something that requires no cooking, only plating) and some pre-made fingerfood that they just need to throw on a plate. We booked at 7 PM, we were there on the dot and we walked out at 10:15 PM, considering that we ordered no extras, that not all tables were occupied and that got up immediatly to pay at the counter so we wouldn't have to wait any longer.

Drinks prices are insane. 12€ for a glass of natural wine, bottles aren't any cheaper. 8€ for a not so special beer. 8€ for an ice tea.

The mood is rather quiet. The decorum is nice, and it's better suited for a quiet dinner with your parents than for a night out with a few friends.

There are better, faster and cheaper options in Brussels for fine dining. Considering the price and the wait: 2...

Top quality, flavourful cooking with an umami kick, and an excellent drinks selection (although the dark porter was much colder than it should have been) is served with professional panache, while the restaurant's ex-butcher shop interior is remarkable: all wrought iron and stainless steel fittings, glazed tiles, marble countertops, etc. Ask for a seat downstairs. All of the above merits an easy 5 out of 5, but there were, alas, negatives. There was no gluten-free bread offered, which is simply not good enough for a restaurant of this quality. The music was inappropriate - too loud and too upbeat - while the quality of the sound system was awful, which didn't help. And the restaurant suffered constant electrical blackouts, a very odd occurrence at an establishment that wants to be taken seriously! Regardless, La Buvette can still lay claim to being one of the best in Bruxelles. I just hope it will...
