Food is good, priced as expected for a Belgian restaurant.
My earlier, 4 year old review, was a 1 star due to absurd rules of not accepting people not wearing a shirt. Which is definitely not very smart and shows what Waterloo is all about: superficial people thinking they're better than others without realising they're just the same as everyone else. I don't know if it still is the case but this did indeed shock me. I can say I found it pathetic for a basic pub and restaurant.
Second time I went there (pub) for a friend, it was just boring, drinks were the same as anywhere else, but at least the service was a tad better.
Third time, we went there for a birthday my family had made a reservation for over a week prior, specifying what table we wanted to be at. Even then, service was quite deplorable, with one exception, the female server who was irreprochable (which is why I gave a two star for service, she raised the grade from a one star, as 0 stars would not show, to a two star). Her male colleagues not only gave up the table before we even arrived, and we arrived 5 minutes sooner than planned, but one of them we had to call back as he didn't even finish taking orders before going back to what he was doing prior...
With that said, the food is good, not that well cooked (I ate meat, which was rare instead of medium rare), but acceptable. Drinks are fine. Sauces are overpriced.
Decor is nice, nothing really unique or special about it, but the inside...
Read moreI organised dinner for a group of 20. I notified the restaurant in advance of all dietary requirements. In particular one member of the group is allergic to nuts. On ordering she enquired if the salad contained nuts and was assured it did not. After tasting the salad she suffered a severe allergic reaction. She deployed her epi-pen and survived although her evening was ruined and the group's spoiled. To top it all they then tried to serve a dessert containing more nuts! The final insult came with the refusal to credit the cost of one meal. Outrageous. €35 off a €1,100 bill!
A small token to their credit. They did take another member of the group to a pharmacy to purchase another antidote.
Otherwise the food was fine but service was lacking. Our waitress being more interested in her mobile phone than her job and a general "so what" attitude.
There are plenty of restaurants in Waterloo....
Read moreThe food was really good, we got steaks with salad and frites. The service was overall great even though the place packed up real quick. What I did not appreciate was even after we spent over 200 euros on dinner, my husband, who ate with us and left briefly to drive his parents home, was not allowed back in the restaurant because he was wearing track pants. Did not seem to be a problem when we ate, but it was a problem AFTER. The bar is next to the restaurant and we had just ordered massive cold margaritas. They wouldn't even let him in by the entrance to have the drink, so instead we stood outside in 0 degree weather. A bit pretentious and biased. This is my husband's favorite restaurant in the world, and had fond memories of eating there since he was a toddler. He hadn't been back in 5 years so he was looking forward to...
