white middle-aged picnic in the middle of beautiful and ethnically diverse belize.

I came to belize to experience the culture and food, but if youre trying to escape Belizian culture altogether and visit somewhere that looks like a beer garden back home in the USA, this is your place.

The atmosphere - I have to say that honestly places like this upset me a bit. This isnt an attempt to lightly remind you of home as much as a blatant refuting of the local culture. It is safe though, well-lit, and about ten minutes south of captain morgan resort or about twelve minutes north of the bridge. Youre driving down a paved road filled with golf carts, and suddenly youll hear classic rock, southern hits, and see a sea of people that clearly arent from here. There is a decent enough bathroom, several food places, and a swim up bar and pool. All in all, if you want to see, feel, and hear good ol USA, this is your spot.

My thoughts - I just dont understand. Why would you come all the way to a beautiful place like Ambergris Caye, and want to feel like youre at a southern, all-white picnic? I was generally disappointed, but for who this place was meant, they'll enjoy it. Technically very little is wrong here, but i just generally reject the idea of a white middle aged southern picnic in the middle of beautiful and ethnically...

WHAT'S HERE?- 4 food vans (pizza, mexican, asian, ice cream) 1 bar (serving draught/bottled beer, spirits, cocktails), live music, lots of seating (picnic table benches or high tables/chairs), toilets on site, outdoor activities including a pool, corn hole, connect 4 etc.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?- Free to park, free to enter, free to play games, beers 7-15 cocktails 20-30, meals 20-35. We had a beer, cocktail, mexican sandwich and a pizza for total 90BZD.

WHAT WE THOUGHT? Definitely recommend! Great atmosphere with live music, good variety of food choices, activities available meaning it caters well to families, great spot for some drinks with friends, easy system of ordering and receiving a buzzer that goes off when your food is ready to go collect meal, easy ride from town, one of the best spots we visited in San Pedro.

HOW TO GET THERE? 15-20 mins golf cart drive from San Pedro Centre, 25-30 mins golf cart drive from Secret Beach

We ordered food which was marginal at best. After dinner my husband and a friend ordered beers. The waiter came up behind him to deliver the beers. My husband didn’t see him coming from behind and swung his arm just at the time the beers were being delivered. The beers spilled off of the tray. The waiter gave my husband a terrible look and walked away. Over 15 minutes later the waiter returned and said “we reviewed our video and you swung your arm and spilled the beers. It is your fault and we will not replace the beers. We attempted to reason with him and the manager because it was clearly an accident. The manager was rude and dismissive. All of this over two beers that spilled accidentally. The spilled beers are not a big issue. The issue is the fact that they treated my husband like he spilled the beers on purpose somehow. We paid for and tipped the waiter in advance of him even delivering the beers. This is how they treat their customers. I would not recommend The Truck Stop there are much better dining on Ambergris Caye...

Very cool location and concept. This was going to be one of the highlights of my trip but ended up being pretty disappointing. The pizza truck “Slice of Haven”, didn’t serve pizza by the slice... The taco place was ok, but $10us for 3 tacos in my opinion is too much. If you like tacos, do yourself (and the local economy) a favor - drive into Ambergris Caye and find one of the ladies on the street selling tacos. A little over $1us per taco, they are incredible and you’re helping the locals too. The food vendors at Truck Stop, unlike literally every other Belizean I’ve met in the last 2 weeks were not pleasant to deal with at all and seemed inconvenienced to deal with customers. A large exception was the bar staff - they were all very cheery and good spirited despite being constantly slammed. Just a suggestion - come here, grab a cocktail and play some games, enjoy the ambiance, then drive into town for some honest, cheap and fantastic food.
