So normally we're ok with many hiccups but this place wifi password says that "ReviewsHelpOurCafe" so here's our subjective experience which was very disappointing - in general the place seems overrated. We went there 2x. First time because it was recommended in reviews as a place to work from. It was crowded (it's a very, very tiny place with 5-6 small tables inside and same outside), the AC is not helping (it's very hot) so we left to a better place. To give a second chance - we went there again to have a coffee and all-day-breakfast as recommended by many. The place was packed again but we managed secure one tiny, dirty table. They didn't have ANY normal coffee (!) but cold brew and they only had 3 food options out of many. We ordered 2 different foods, 2 cold brews and 1 juice. They brought us 2 juices instead of 1 and two of the same meal options instead of different ones - what we had ordered. The second meal they brought back to the kitchen and our understanding was that they will make the correct one (while we said it's fine to keep it as is). An hour later they came and said they're closing in 5 minutes and apologised that they forgot to make the 2nd meal. Yes, they did charge extra 10% tip for this "service"... Summary of our unfortunate experience: Cold Brew tasted well Internet is fast International crowd Didn't have any coffee but cold brew Staff is totally confused and is mixing the orders Service is very, very slow Too crowded and noisy for any deep work Staff forgets to bring food Too hot unless you sit right next to the AC ~ Food was ok but a...
Read moreVery nice cafe with comfy cushions, good coffee, tasty carrot cake, efficient fans keeping the place cool, and great prices! It also opens earlier than most other cafes in Ipanema, perfect for early birds like me. However, seems to be frequented by some particularly entitled 'digital nomad' types. While I was there a group of three English-speaking digital nomads brought a wet dog inside the cafe, which kept shaking its dirty, sweaty water all over me, my coffee, my food, and the rest of the cafe. It also wet the floor and knocked over drinks on its owner's table, who then beckoned with a hand gesture to the baristas to come clean it up, no please or thank you (in EN or PT). 😬 When I confronted them about this, the dog owner flippantly said sorry, then under his breath said 'how am I supposed to stop my dog from shaking' while his friends rolled their eyes and acted like I was whack for even bringing it up. In addition to being a health hazard, such behavior is cringe, and makes me not want to return to the cafe. I will ofc give 5 stars bc this is no fault of the establishment and I know they rely on the money of obnoxious Westerners to stay afloat, but I want to make it known that such behavior is off putting to other Westerners like me trying to enjoy a morning coffee without the seasoning of wet dog.
Edit: perhaps a well-worded sign saying 'Pets Welcome! We just ask that you please be respectful of other guests.' Or...
Read moreI gave it 2 stars due to the coffee being pretty good quality, and the owner is nice or else 1 star would have been better. I never complain but here’s the story. I was a daily customer until I got told that my Texas southern personality was “too much” and I needed to “tone it down” word by word. I talked to many people after this Brazilian and non and no one could believe it. An owner telling a customer this, is absolutely insane! But he was forced to by the more than likely immature girls behind the counter which even though this is Brazil, it’s an Australian coffee shop (English is an Aussies main language) didn’t speak a lick of English and felt threatened because they couldn’t take my order, while acting like I was a difficult customer every single time I went in when all I did as smile and ask “Todobem”. I think they said I was flirtatious which is my personality (and if you saw these girls, they’re 100% not worth flirting for) to be honest, not mean.
I’ve never given a bad review in my life and people tend to love and gravitate towards me but I was embarrassed. Not for me, but that the owner had to talk to a customer like this on behalf of questionable workers. “Customer is always right” does not belong in this coffee shop. That’s not how you do business. Good coffee though! Just don’t be too friendly is what I...
